Default Acetone substitution....

YAh, well I was reading on how to take rp off of matchbooks, can i substitute colmen fuel for acetone, in this setup, i was going to use colmen fuel to get the strips off the cardboard and to disolve the glue, i would later clean my rp with distilled water and acetone,. thanks,

acetone is a polar solvent, colemans fuel is a non polar solvent. so i dont think that the glue would dissolve very well in colemans fuel. I am pretty sure of this. at least it wouldnt dissolve as fast as in acetone. but maybe it wouldnt dissolve at all. i would stick with high grade acetone. doesnt need to be dry acetone, but good stuff works faster i find.

For cleaning matchbooks, use the cheapest stuff you can find.

Firstly, you will need a LOT of it.

Secondly, you want to dissolve anything other than RP, you do not need a specific, selective solvent. A solvent such as cheap laquer thinner or such will do more for a lot less. Or, even better, mixes such as laquer thinner/acetone.

And I cant imagine why high grade acetone should be used.It will be the discarded portion, so who cares if it contains trace impurities.

Discard? Don't you recover your solvents? Chucking acetone away isn't very ecofriendly now is it?
