| Better Living Through Chemistry Discussions of any and all sorts of mind-warping chemicals, pills, booze, mind machines, trippy stuff, making beer, current street prices, importing pharmaceuticals, smart drugs, nutrients, herbs, and altered states. Please try to keep your conversations "theoretical" in nature, since this is an open conference. |

Re: Hydrazine
I have no clue why you would want it but, I do believe it is in, apresoline, dralzine, unipes and uniserp. Those are all prescription medacines.

Re: Hydrazine
Is there any way it could be produced synthetically in home lab conditions.

Re: Hydrazine
Hydrazine is a chemical that is used for many things. Mainly, in drug culture it is used to convert lysergic acid into iso-lysergic acid hydrazide. For LSD production of course.

Re: Hydrazine
For what it's worth:
The preferred method is a 2-step process: (1) reaction of sodium hypochlorite and ammonia to yield chloramine (NH2Cl) and sodium hydroxide; (2) reaction of chloramine, ammonia, and sodium hydroxide to yield hydrazine, sodium chloride, and water. Noteworthy is the need to carry out the reactions in the presence of such colloidal materials as gelatin, glue, or starch to prevent unwanted side reactions that would reduce the yield of hydrazine. An older method utilized the reaction of sodium hypochlorite or calcium hypochlorite with urea.

Re: Hydrazine
For anyone that's interested, hydrazine is also one of the main ingredients of a highly stable liquid explosive called Astrolite-G.
I've seen a demo of this stuff and it's quite interesting. 3 pints of it sprayed onto a field then left for 2 days (cue rain and thunderstorm). After the rain, we went outside, stuck a lead azide / potassium picrate charge in the centre and ran like hell.
It's about 30% more powerful than an equivalent amount of TNT. It's also oudourless and, for those with chemical bomb sniffers, doesn't emit any nitrogen-based gas for the detectors to pick up.

Re: Hydrazine
Shhhhh!
You can't go around telling everyone that you can make one of the world's most powerfull explosives with bleach, ammonia, gelatin and **** *****!
Well that, sufficient knowledge and bit of glassware.
Hey do you have the original booklet that was offered through SOF?

Re: Hydrazine
Hydrazine was also used as a fuel component in the engine of the German WW2 plane, the Me163. The other component being hydrogen peroxide. The engine, about the size of a suitcase mainly consisted of the 2 fuel pumps and the reaction chamber. The things were absolute deathtraps, the main problems being pilot blackout on takeoff and H2O2 tank rupture on landing. They lost more Me163 pilots that way than due to allied guns. There is a lovely example of one in the science museum in London. Sorry about the off topic history lesson BTW...
