Alright, say John likes Betty. John is in 10th grade and Betty is in 8th grade (they are about 2 years appart plus or minus a month or two). Obviously two years is not a big gap by itself, but in this context, I was wondering what peoples oppinions are on when it is acceptable (socially, and their personal thoughts on the matter) for John to ask Betty out. How many years down the road, or if it is right now.

If the two are both adults, gaps up to maybe even 10 years will still be accepted. However, depending on the area, parents, school, a gap of more than two grades might be viewed as "bad." From where I live, theres plenty of seniors screwing freshmans, and even seniors with 8th graders.

First a 10th grader thats screwing a 8th grader i would think the 10th grader is a sick mother fucker that cant get any girls that are his age so he goes screwing 8 th graders this gets me so pissed im loading my shotgun. Im in 10th grade an all my friends go after girl their age or older me myself find girls my age or older more attractive.

What's wrong with being attracted to someone who is 14 when you're 16? You were attracted to them when you were 14, why should that change just because you have two more years on them?

So if "John" likes "Betty" and vice versa I wouldn't think there is any problem with that. Two years isn't that big of a gap. And 8th grade is only seperated from 9th by a summer. Give it a year or so and it will be an 11th grader with a 9th grader, which no one looks down on.

The bigger the difference in age, the more you're gonna catch shit (whether you care or not), the more you need to make sure she's worth your time. Other than that, as long as you both sincerely care about each other, it's fine.

Not that I've ever seen. For one thing, a lot of 15-year-olds see more by that age than the 20-year-olds do, so even if they're equal in all other respects, the younger one could still have more life experience. And, yeah, some of those kids are pretty fucking smart, pretty clued in, even if they haven't seen all the world has to offer. It may be an insulated wisdom, but it's wisdom nonetheless.

Anyway to the topic at hand. The issue here is one of a relationship, *NOT* one of sex. At this age it would be quite normal for you to be going out 18 months or 2 years before the question of sex even comes up. In that context... If you ask her out now she'll either say yes or no. If you don't ask, she may regard you as a good friend but you'll pass outside the potential b/f sphere and into the "friend" sphere. She may start going out with someone else and... you may not get another chance to ask her.

If you do go out, let her set the pace as far as what you do goes. Let her know you're doing this. All relationships should be built on more than sex. IF you can talk openly to each other and trust each other... thats a great start. If she can do that with you, she'll tell you if she wants a kiss. The next step, deciding when to kiss her is yours. She might one day tell you she wants to cuddle. Fine. From then on, unless she tells you its uncomfortable, take the initiative and cuddle her when it feels right. This goes right the way up. When she decides she wants to try sex, if she wants to try it with you, fine. Its her choice and your choice. If she changes her mind at the last minute, thats fine too. Just support her, cuddle her and be there for her. Again this advice might not be usefull for a few years but... the same logic should apply even now. Offer to hold her hand, but don't force it. Ok, enough ranting on that. Soem other things to remember.
1) You may or may not have been ready for a relationship at 14. Think back. She may or may not be ready now. I wouldn't discount it on age though.
2) If you go out for 18 months and then decide to have sex... she'll be roughly how old you are now. At that point remember how you feel now about it. Don't patronise her. Maybe even write a note now about how you feel and if you are going out with her in 18 months... read it.
3) Protect her, but don't be over protective. She's her own person too.

Totally agree with MissMorgie. Age is irrelevant. To an 18 year old guy, a 25 year old girl may seem like "old"------ when the same girl would seem like a "baby" to a 55 year old guy. I'm 23. For me, the "minimum age" for the guy is whatever the "legal age" is. And the "maximum age" does not exist, if I enjoy being with him. One of the best relationships I've had was with a 47 year "old" guy when I was 18. Love, Venus.
