Re: "wise men still seek him"
by the wise man stil seek him, he meant to say that everyoen will need god no matter who you are. well, i can see that he loves god and thers nothing wrong with that, however being atheist myself, i do not feel anything from reading that. I have however been made to think for hours at a time about this whole does god exist thing by some other sayings.

Re: "wise men still seek him"
Being respectful, I will not criticize anyone here. But I personnally believe that the destiny of mankind is not within the hands of whatever god or gods, but in the hands of mankind itself. I am what we call a humanist. I think that if humanity survives it's own destructive power then we will be ruling the Universe. We now have the power of our own evolution, we have the power of technology and above all else, we adapt. If God created us, then we're on the way to outsmart our Father. But we should do something He doesn't, protect those under us. Sivvy, you have Faith and I admire that. But you put your faith in someone who doesn't help us at all. He's a spectator, not a father.

Re: "wise men still seek him"
like i said, i was walking my dog last night. i was thinking about where the creator is in this big fucking mess called life. i was just lost in my own thoughts. then, the sign. i believe some shit happens for a reason, seeing that last night was just perfect time and perfect place for me. i was just blown away. quote: Originally posted by TheLordOfTheBobs: Sivvy, you have Faith and I admire that. But you put your faith in someone who doesn't help us at all. He's a spectator, not a father.
i agree and disagree bobs. i dont feel the creator is anything but a force surrounding the earth. i dont think it's a 'he' or that he wears sandals. i dont believe there is a true church or true followers. i feel he is more universal than that. you said he doesnt help us, that, i respectfully disagree with. every soul on earth has their own unique perception of god; and when they find themselves in a tough walk of life, who do they turn to? god. granted, it's nothing more than placebo, but if people recharge their psyche this way, i feel this is good and id never take that beleif from someone. yes, our choices are our own, and yes, fate is in our hands, but we will always look to our individual god and ask for guidance. he is everyones father. i hope someone gets as much from these posts on this topic as i have. thank you.

Re: "wise men still seek him"
Indeed. But when we get in a tough situation, we always turn toward something that can help us. Current and past generations turn toward Him because church played the most important role in the past. Our grandkids will turn toward science and religion will be slowly forgotten in the Western world.

Re: "wise men still seek him"
the revolution in thought of which you speak will not occur in america for quite some time. while i admit that i hadn't really considered much about it until right now, such a large scale shift in values is impossible with the popularity of church intersecting state, especially with the current rise in mccarthyism against foreign thought. it would be sort of an ideal thing, such a revolution, but the ideal is not always popular.

Re: "wise men still seek him"
so if you would have seen an ornament that said "God doesnt exist, be an atheist", at the same moment, wouldnt that be a sign to be athiest?

Re: "wise men still seek him"
Dopeman, I do think such values revolution will occur within only a few decades. 40 years ago, many were educated by nuns and there was a very strong presence of the church everywhere. Today, religious teachings are being removed in high school and are only optional. Very few where I live practice catholicism or any religion of some sort. I'm maybe the only guy in my school who read the Bible. I only go to church for funerals. And so will my kids I believe. Don't you think?

Re: "wise men still seek him"
where do you live, mr. bobs? there are still southern public schools with bible clubs. strom thurmond, who just retired from his position in legislature at 100, was militantly opposed to all of the civil rights reforms forty years ago, and maintained anti-minority attitudes while quoting the bible in congress for quite some time. there is a current backlash against islam in america, and it is a public and capital one. our president is pushing this force toward a resurgence of church in state. to me, he is too far right for comfort. but that's another story.

Re: "wise men still seek him"
For your information I live in Canada, Qubec city to be precise. And if politics quote the Bible, it's because they are from the generation that was raised with it. Mine isn't and future ones neither.

Re: "wise men still seek him"
This topic belongs in the My God Can Beat the Shit Out of Your God section. Also, I find it sad that such a grandiose proverb would have this effect. This just futhers my theory that most religion is a disguised form of mind control: you were nearly bawling like a baby over a phrase that wasn't even so great, simply because it pertained to your religion! I'm out.
