Default How did we make it this far, living under laws like these?

For those of you who need a laugh, go here:
http://www.dumblaws.com/states/index.html

It is a collection of laws on the books in the states and in different countries. Evidently there was a lot of trouble with people carrying ice cream cones in their pockets a while back.

I recommend reading Pennsylvania.

i remeber reading one from england, saying you may not shoot a scotsman on a sunday.

some of the laws are understandable, if a bit strange, like "There is a ban on men becoming aroused in public.", but others are just weird. there is no logic in them at all, like "It it illegal to sleep on top of a refrigerator outdoors."

i don't understand what was happening to cause an epidemic of fridge sleeping people, or why they found it offensive enough as to ban it.

"It is illegal to drive around the town square more than 100 times in a single session."

"A man may not seduce a woman by lying, and claiming he will marry her."

to be honest, i don't know what you expect of a country that was founded in large by a bunch of phsycotic religious freaks.

found it, from england, york.
"Excluding Sundays, it is perfectly legal to shoot a Scotsman with a bow and arrow."

I may be mistaken, but what is so offensive about singing in the bath if it is allowed in the shower?

also i thought "Any motorist who sights a team of horses coming toward him must pull well off the road, cover his car with a blanket or canvas that blends with the countryside, and let the horses pass. If the horses appear skittish, the motorist must take his car apart, piece by piece, and hide it under the nearest bushes" was stupid. who carries a complete set of tools to take thier car apart, in case of horses? and what if there is no bushes?

sorority houses are illegal in PA because more than a certain number of women living together constitutes a brothel. Sorority, borthel....what's the difference, they're all whores.

As long as the person with the bow and arrow is standing on the walls of the city (the Bar Walls). Also, in Scotland you can still be hung for being a wicca, as withcraft is illegal. and Treason still carries the Death Penalty, despite the fact the sentence can't be carried out.

I love California.

* No vehicle without a driver may exceed 60 miles per hour.

* You are not permitted to wear cowboy boots unless you already own at least two cows.

* One may not use one's own restroom if the window is open.

* It is illegal to wash your car in the street.

* It is illegal to drive more than two thousand sheep down Hollywood Boulevard at one time.

* Crushing rocks in the city limits is forbidden.

* Cars are the only item allowed in a garage.

* Toads may not be licked.

* It is illegal to molest butterflies.

* It is illegal for a secretary to be alone in a room with her boss.

* One may not carry a lunch down the street between 11 and 1 o'clock.

* Persons classified as "ugly" may not walk down any street.

* Children may not wear a halloween mask unless they get a special permit from the sheriff.

* Males may not dress as a female unless a special permit is obtained from the sheriff.

Probably because back then people were always licking toads. The anti-toad-licking law was probably passed near the end of the bizarre law making periods of time to prevent something like that from ever happening again.

Under Michigan laws:

You may not swear in front of women and children. (Repealed)

I was glued to the TV when this was taken to the supreme court. For those not framiliar with the case, a man fell out of his canoe and started swearing. A woman and her children were nearby, as was an overzealous police officer. One thing led to another and the man ended up with 90 days in jail. He took it to court, and after being bumped all the way to the state supreme court it was ruled that swearing falls under the first ammendment.

Yay.

Well, lets set the record straight here, I've been on that river, and I kept track of the first trial here in the paper.

The guy either fell or was flipped out of the canoe and then started swearing, not just damn, piss, shit. This guy was using every agressive "K" word there was towards the other party that put him in the river (awful cold in that river, any time of year). The woman and her children were a half a mile up stream, the sheriff was three quarters of a mile downstream, they both heard him. Funny thing about a river, they are always in a valley, sound travels up and down the valley, sort of like a megaphone.

My heart goes out to all the people who live along the river, because during the summer they have to put up with all kinds of incredibly ignorant dipshits who seem to think that when you take a canoe trip you must start drinking beer/alcohol at 8am for a trip that starts at noon. Then of course there is the obligatory few cases of beer that have to go with you down the river so that you will be able to stand in the canoe and piss over the side while you are going downstream. And don't forget to bring extra trash to toss into the river or along the banks.

And those people have only one volume setting, as loud as possible. Imagine a bunch of drunken morons partying in your front yard with absolutely no respect for themselves or anyone else and you start to get the picture. You can whisper on the river and have someone 100 yards away hear you, you never need to yell.

If it had been up to me that guy's face would have been put on a poster and it would have been placed at every canoe rental place in Michigan with the notice that to rent him a canoe would result in your being sent to sea aboard a Greek freighter as the towel boy.

oop my bad, it was meant to go to this:

Law: It is illegal to urinate on the Alamo.
Country: USA
State: Texas
City: San Antonio

Explanation: The Alamo was the site of a famous battle during the fight for Texas' independence from Mexico. During this battle, the fort was overrun, but not until most men fought until the death to defend it. In a highly publicized incident, Ozzy Osbourne urinated on this famed historical site which infuriated many Texans. He was banned from the site, and a law was passed to prevent such acts from happening again.

Licking certian toads has intoxicating effects. They banned it; like they would other drugs.

Yep.

You can technicaly still get tickets though. And you could always be arrested tomorow. And you may be "detained" until the arrest is official.

well a law has just been passed in Edinburgh (Scotlands Capital) that prevents any parents takeing pictures or videos of school activeties i.e. nativety plays, sports avents and award ceremonies. why you ask? well because they could be used in pedophile circles! There has been city wide protest about this law that just came into circulation about 1-2 days ago. if that doesn't qualify for a dumb law i don't know what does.

HOLY FUCK

They shouldn't be doing anything that would attract pedophiles anyway.
