Default Math Project Help

Does anyone know any sine or cosine word problems (trinometric functions), that require graphs. If you know any websites or if you know any off the top of your head it would be appriciated.

Fuck I hate math!

hmm... I don't have any experience in sine/cosine problems. Maybe look into something like the fluctuation of wolf and rabbit populations in one area over long periods of time?

Well, I can think of plenty of sine/cosine problems, especially physics ones but not any that require graphs. =/

I suggest researching Bragg's Equation involving indexes of refraction. A delightful way to relate sine and cosine to reality.

A good place to check would be here:

Check under the tutorials and you should be able to find some trig problems that fit your needs.

Well here's one from my trig textbook:

An object attached to a spring is pulled downward 4cm from its equilibrium position and released. It makes one complete oscillation every 4 seconds. Graph the function.

Why do you need to know this if you hate math? If you need to know it for a test look in your textbook. My trig textbook (Glencoe Advanced Mathematical Concepts) has a whole section dedicated to modeling real world functions with sinsoidial functions. Out of boredom, I guess I will copy a problem for you.

9. In a certain region with hawks as predators and rodents as prey, the rodent population R varies according to the model R = 1200 + 300 sin(pi/2)t, and the hawk population H varies according to the model H = 250 + 25sin[(pi/2)t-(pi/4)], with T measured in years since January 1, 1970.

A. What was the population of rodents on January 1, 1970.

B. What was the population of hawks on January 1, 1970.

C. What are the maximum poplations and minimum populations of rodents and hawks? Do these maxima ever occur at the same time?

D. On what date was the first maximum population of rodents acheived?

E. What is the minimum population of hawks? On what date was the minimum population of hawks first achieved?

F. According to the models, what was the population of rodents and hawks on January 1 of the present year?

Hope this helps

It is a test grade, but however it is a project and the asshole teacher made it so we couldn't use one from our book. But anyway thanks.

Colorado Springs, strangely enough. It appears we live in the same town.
