Don't get your license suspended.

You can't, just drive, be super-careful, go the exact speed limit, use your turn signals, don't drive after midnight, etc.
If your license is suspended, you CANNOT get a license. Get one illegally and get busted with it and you will be waiting a LONG time to get another one. I would'nt drive any more than I had to, you just never know when you are gonna see the gumballs in the rearview mirror...

i just got my license back yesterday after having it suspended for 5 1/2 years. you can still drive, but it's very stressful. seeing an officer on the road while i was driving really upped the old blood pressure.
here's what you need to do to get your license back, if you were asking for the legal way to do it. go to your local dmv, get your record. in california, it costs $12 for the printout. the printout will show everything currently on your record, including the court that placed the suspension on your license, your docket #, and the number to call them. the number is usually to the superior court clerk in whatever county your suspension happened in. call the clerk, give her your docket #, and ask her what you need to do. they usually will tell you to either make a court date to talk to the judge, (which they will do for you) or if you can just pay the county offices your fine. going to see the judge is kind of a pain in the ass, the clerks can usually give you the same discounts on your fine, depending on what your original offense was. most offenses have a discount given to them with proof of correction. pay the people whatever they want, they give a receipt saying you've payed yer shit, and they'll take the suspension off of your license within 48 hours. go back to the DMV with your receipt (although it may not be needed, but just in case) and pay the dmv a re-issue fee. in california the fee is $55. they'll give you an interim paper license, and then they'll send you your real one in 2-3 weeks.
it all really just comes down to paying them large amounts of money. (depending on you offense) that's really all it's about. pay them, and you can drive legally. that's it.
i just got mine back yesterday, it was suspended 5 1/2 years ago, and after wasting a lot of time, and thinking they were going to throw me in jail if i didn't have tens of thousands of dollars to pay the fines off totally, i found out that the 3 courts i had to deal with were all very willing to cut me a deal. i'd saved more than i needed.

Just beg them for it back. Hope they go easy on you.

I drove for a 1 1/2 year without a license and insurance; never got caught.

- Try not to drive at midnight
- Know the intersection the police are located
- Be very carefull not to injur a pedestrian
