Re: Earth
remember that the moon is slowing down earth's rotation time. around 75-100 million years ago a day lasted 22 hours. if the day lasted somewhat 36 hours, the effects would be insane. life on earth would disapear in matter of days since during day the temperature would be like 70 degrees (in celcius) and around -25 at night. and it's only a change of 6 hours. so if the sun would just stop from existing, 24 hours would be enough to freeze the terran crust exculding oceans who'd take around 3 days. humanity i doubt would be able to survive this even with his unimaginable knowledge of adaption. fell free to oppose my ideas.

Re: Earth
I will.
First and foremost, the temperature differences won't be that severe. One side of the planet will get hotter, and the other side will get colder, but air currents and ocean currents (such as the gulf stream) will help distribute the heat more evenly.
Second, the earth is actualy spinning a little faster than it was even 100 years ago. While the moon's effects on the tides are slowing us down, vast amounts of water have been artificaly trapped in the northern hemisphere. This brings the angular force of the equator closer to the axis and speeds it up. Just like when a figure skater pulls in her/his limbs to speed up a spin. The difference is only a fraction of a second per day.
Third, it would take hundreds of millions of years for that much slowing of rotation, which gives more than enough time for new life forms to evolve to fit the new environment.

Re: Earth
yes but the rotation slowing was only to make an exemple that only a few hours of more or less could change things drasticlly and if the sun would go down instantly, 24h would be enough to freeze earth
