About two years ago I would say rap.....but now it's definately rock. Rap is cool music I'm not putting it down....but its more for a different mood. You rarely find a rap song that has lyrics that actually mean something......On the other hand rock has the lyrics....If you listen to them....you can relate to them about many different situations life brings....and besides the lyrics....the music itself fuckin rocks....I'll admit there is also pointless rock band out there.....but not as many as rap has............

Everything good about both of them is in the past. Rap had a short-lived time of wonder-Public Enemy, NWA, etc, etc-back when it was real. Then the money grubbing corporates came in, handing every two-bit loser who says they are 'real' a contract, and it bacame nothing but deluded rubbish.
Rock is in a worse state, because it's true death kneal came in the late 80's (and that is being a kind estimate). Except the occassion, sproratic wunderkind (The Vines, etc), all rock spews out these days is formlumatic total rubbish, pissy rock/rap 'fusion', and rehashed
trash.

Do yourself a favor, go buy some Led Zepplin albums if you like rock, and if you like rap, go fill yourself full of NWA...

It would have to be rap for me, when i say rap, i dont mean commercial crap like ludacris or nelly, they make their money and its all good. Alot of rap ha meaning, im yet to hear a dmx song without meaning. Although some rock can be the same. I love any song which makes me bop and has meaning. At the moment it has to be rap though. The style of music is irrelevant to me, its the purpose which sticks (with me), and the amount of style added to the purpose which counts. Im heavily into music. The beats can make me bop? yes, now the lyrics mean something? yes, i like it.
Coming from the streets myself seems to lean me towards rap, but if rock creates a song which i like, i will like it, simple as.

Granted, some rap songs have meaning, but most of them are about the 22" rims, grilles, BBQed chicken, platinum ice, babys mommas. RAP=Retards About Poetry. Most rock & roll has meaning. Cept those fringe fucks like Limp-Wristed & ICPussys!

Those comercial songs with no purpose other than to brag of the financial gain achieved are bs, does it matter what they claim to be? No wether it rap or rock, they claim to be, they are mearly commercial shit dont disgrace rap due to those who say their comercial crap is rap, or comercial rock with rock claims. Comercial crap is comercial crap what they claim to be is irrelevant. what they are is important.

Rock USED to be good, if you like this Nu-Rock and say its rock, your wrong, rock is Led Zeppelin. Thats it. Most people that say rap sucks have never bothered to listen to rap, and dont tell me you have, because you didnt. Who gives a fuck, both make people happy. Shouldnt this ben in the Rock n Roll section?

I dont think that Hendrix or Marley could flow like Em or sn00p, right? You cant really compare the two because ITS A WHOLE FUCKING DIFFERENT STYLE! Rappers can flow while rockers can play amazing riffs. And dont bring Hendrix into this! Rap wasnt really around when he was, so its not fair.

Rap is crap. Not only is it crap, but it promotes criminal activities.
Listening to rap in public should be a criminal offence punishable by a policeman's bullet. Of course the bullet shouldn't enter the human, just the stereo. The human should be locked up until he is too old to hear.

A mix of both.

I have problems with both genres as they currently stand. I do like rock more because there is more innovation in rock now than rap. But, rock has been pretty stale for 4 or 5 years now.
Most rap on the other hand shows the rapper as extremely vain and self absorbed. Most are of the 'Look at me, dressing nice, while carrying guns, fucking 40 bitches, drinking 40 forties, shooting you with a forty plus five, shooting 40 cops, doing forty lines, die before forty' variety.
There is good rap out there, I won't deny. Some I actually enjoy listening to, usually older stuff, like E-40, celly cell, Easy E, any NWA, pretty much. But they can and do fall into that situation I described. Often.
But they are redeemed by being excellent lyricists.

Rock, easily. I just don't go for rap that much. I think rock has a better combination of meaning and pleasing sounds. Rap doesn't offer much in the way of music, but I do admit some rap lyrics are pretty nice.

it would be great if knowledgeable people ever posted on these things. instead you have assh*les who have never heard any real hip hop spouting off about how it sucks. if your listening to the radio... it sucks. doesn't matter if it's rap or rock. which one is better? guess what the artists making the good stuff in both genres dont give a shit which is better, it's a non-issue. why should you care to debate about something that's not debateable. why dont you talk about jazz vs country or r&b vs classical, it's would all be shit.

While I believe that some rap is good- and worth listening to- I've gotta say rock is the best genre. However, I'd agree that the modern day state of both genres doesn't inspire anything in me.
Led Zep on the otherhand isn't the worlds greatist band, nor is it the only great rock band, rock is bound to come up with some good musicians soon. Check out the lesser known bands, Sebadoh for one- is great.
