The biggest "benefit" of the Black Plague was the changing role of the peasant in European life. The wholesale loss of life left much of the land without workers. Those who were left got much better treatment than did their parents.

I don't know when the plague had left europe (abso-fricken-lutley no idea). but i do know that it cleaned up the gene pool of idiots who didn't have enough common sense to keep rats away. think about the idiots you see today and then think baout what it would be like if all those idiots back then had been allowed to breed. one of drawbacks that scares the hell out of me is hat because the population had been decreased imensley, suitable "mates" would have been hard to find so some inbreeding would have occured and that's bad.

It allowed a mutation that made some northern europeans and their decendants to be born without the cd4 site that the aids virus binds to.

And it left a gene pool of idiots who didn't have enough sense to keep rats away. None of them figured out things like bacteria and virus for several hundred more years. They thought the plague was caused by "vapors".

heh...nox is right...they said that it was like a 'evil' vapour that came from the dark forests that was a posessed evil being that thrived on greed and what not...one of the home cures was to just eat flowers and shit like that...because the vapour was 'bad' so they thought you could counter act it with something that smelt 'good'

By the way, the old nursey ryme "Ring around the Rosey" has roots in the Plague

Hmm.. Offhand, if I can remember
Ring Around the Rosey
Refers to the Rose-colored rings that the plague gave you

Pocket Full of Poseys
As Boris said, people carried and ate poseys to ward off the vapors

Ashes, Ashes
They burned the dead

We All Fall Down!
We all drop dead!

What a great song for your kids, huh?
Many rhymes like this have roots in things such as these.
