Don't bother going to sites about street racing or you'll just end up blowing money on useless crap and a bunch of stickers. You need to learn the basics before you bother with going faster. If not you'll just end up with a fart tube tail pipe, a park bench spoiler, funky air filters, huge tachs and shift lights on an automatic, and fancy wheels. One of the best sources of info is to go to sites that are dedicated to your particular model of car, ones with a forum in particular. That way you'll be able to find out what works for your car and what doesn't. If the forum revolves entirely around racing though you'll just end up with people making shit up and wasting your time.

My favorite part of that movie was when bald guy said"you weren't double clutching like you're supposed to" Was he racing a freightliner or something?

Being a mechanic, I hated the movie too.

But look at the kids that are out street racing. I'd say around 90% of them know nothing at all about cars other than what they read in a magazine. Any moron can throw money at a car and make it go a little bit faster. I think the kid's trying to make his car go alot faster for less money. That would probably mean that he'd have to talk to someone other that a 16 year old that gets money nonstop from mommy and daddy to drive around the same damn part of town for 8 hours straight. The people that he needs to talk to are probably not the ones on the street bragging about imaginary 1/4 times. If anyone, he needs to talk to the guys at a drag strip running real times.

Its not really about having a lot of money. I know a few guys that Ive mnet when having fun with my handbreak, they saw me, joined in, we had some little talk.

Theyre not rich, they just work and invest theyre stuff in their car, thats about it.

Ive met some other dude that I knew from school, hes intrested in Ford and wants to work at a Ford garage, you know simple stuff like that.

You just gather info from everywere, of course we dont have those cars like in Fast and The Furious, we just use simple by trying to chose the best. Yes used cars.

That does not mean were not fooling on the road from time to time just cause we dont have Vipers, thats what happens when ya watch to much TV.

Tryng to get a car like in TFATF is just stupid, its like watching a commercial that influenced you to buy a product, thats just dumb, its funny how much influence that movie had tho.

If your got into street racing I cant understand how you cant get any info. But we never know. Or you mean you just got intrested in it, well I hope its not because of the movie, cause its going to like any product, once you buy it you dont want it,

Just for advice, maybe get yourself a job in a garage or car wash. If your really into it. Yerh maybe youll will just be washing a car and roll the tires, but thats a start, if you want to get any further.

Only slightly off topic, but you'll get over it:

Someone please tell me that that bald-headed bastard didn't trash that GTO they gave him for xXx...I've just barely gotten over the Charger.

Double clutcing is used in racing too. Heres a page that goes over it: http://www.driversedge.com/dblcltch.htm

They were upshifting the whole time in the race that involved the comment, what you linked to was down shifting. Therefore that comment from bald dude was kind of irrelevant. What most people do is to use the heel toe method. The double clutching that page described would work with keeping the clutch depressed and raising the rpm then shifting therefore the extra steps are not really necessary and put extra wear on the clutch linkage and throwout bearing. The synchros in the transmissions don't know any difference between neutral and having the clutch depressed. Releasing the clutch unecessarily also puts alot of stress on the pressure plate, so it would be better to just hold it.

Double clutching on trucks used to be necessary because big diesels take so long to drop rpm after the pedal is left off of. They would depress the clutch shift to neutral, let the rpms drop(usually a second or 2 on older mechanically controlled diesels) depress the clutch again then shift at the right moment. Now the engine controls and transmissions are fine tuned enough just to slip into the nest gear.
