Do You Believe In GOD?
If you believe the science version of the creation of the universe you would have to think the cosmos and all that exists sprung from a single particle (sub-atomic), to me this does not sound reasonable, so I have to believe in a supreme being.I guess we will have to die to learn the truth.

Re: Do You Believe In GOD?
I don't believe in god. I think of god as being a creation of the imagination which actually has a possibility of being true. This isn't the same as flat-out believing god doesn't exist.

Re: Do You Believe In GOD?
i think that their is a human tendency to create a god in our minds. i think it stems from mans greatest fear death. it also comes from the wanting to understand.
those two things together make motherfuckers think up shit like greek mythology, suns being gods, wind and so forth all the way up to jesus.
i think that if you genuinely dont fear death it makes it easier to see things more clearly. i used to beleive in god. but after awhile the truth sets in. the truth is, the world is fucked up, people suffer and no "god" would create a place like that.
now maybe there is some sort of creator but i think it would be more like an accidental thing or lab test the same way we grow cultures. i dont think that there is any creator that will help us out after we are dead. so it doesnt really matter if there is one or not.

Re: Do You Believe In GOD?
quote: "It shall rain on the Good and Evil" but then again many doctors cant explain why the power of prayer heals. how people who are beyond deaths door all of a sudden stand up and walk out of hospitals. and How cancers just disapear that are way to advanced for healing.
It works the same way a placebo works, if the person believes enough that it will work, in some instances their mind overcomes the obstacle. quote: I used to beleive in god. but after awhile the truth sets in. the truth is, the world is fucked up, people suffer and no "God" would create a place like that.
No, but humans would. And since we have control of the planet we can do pretty much whatever we damn well please with it now can't we? God doesn't make people suffer, people make people suffer. Fucked up despots and tyrants ruling countries with a million guns and no food makes people suffer. "God" just puts us here and then from there we do whatever we damn well please. quote: I dont believe in god, I dont need to worship a imaginary thing. I worship myself and thats all I need.
Why? Do you have some superhuman abilites? The average human being is hardly anything worthy of worship so why worship yourself? It's not like your gaining anything by doing it. quote: I don't believe in god. I think of god as being a creation of the imagination which actually has a possibility of being true. This isn't the same as flat-out believing god doesn't exist.
That still doesn't solve the problem of how anything came to be. If people make the God and the God makes the people then you have an obvious contradictory paradox. quote: I guess we will have to die to learn the truth.
Assuming we can know anything without a brain, and that there is some kind of great revelation when you die that instills the truth on you then yeah, we have to wait till' we check out. quote: Einstien Believed in God. The God of Israel too. God is not something to Debate. thats why its called Faith.
Faith in the religious sense is for bridging gaps in logic. I believe that there is some sort of "God" out there because it follows logic where science drops off, but you can throw everything we think we know about him out the window, like organized religion for instance. quote: there is no "The God". most of the religions have a so called "God". till this day we dont have any proof of existence of "god".
Just because we don't have proof of the intellegent design theory doesn't mean that we can throw it out. To say that there is no way for God to exist is the same as saying that there absolutely cannot be any other intellegent life in the universe other than Earth. It's making conclusions based on lack of information, just because we don't know about something doesn't mean it don't exist, and just because someone believes in something doesn't make it true. quote: there is a girl at my school who is the smartest person in louisiana when it comes to algebra and she is also one of the smartest students in louisiana, at least one of the top 10 maybe even top five. she is so smart and obviously she knows a lot and she doesn't believe in god. she is hard to argue with because she knows more than most people and she believes that there is no god. its kind of hard to say that she is wrong when most of the time she is right and she has way more knowlegde than most of us
Any argument she can throw at me I could cut into ribbons, I have been arguing this subject for years. I'm not going to convince her that a God exists, but I sure as hell can show her that there is no way she can prove she is right based on her lack of info. If she can show me how everything can come into place in a manner that is consistant with science then she will win, not even the smartest people in the world can do this. quote: Lets see. A Large Bang, Amino Acids form first cell organism which mutate and form multy cell creatures? I dont buy that.
Neither does science. Mutations yield no new genetic information, so a single celled organism will remain single celled unless new genetic information is introduced. quote: then how come the greatest thinkers of all time were almost all athiests?
Because they all made assumptions based on speculation and lack of information. quote: I believe that someone created life as we know it, but I know its not some bearded fellow sat in the clouds of heaven looking down on us. This world is only real to us because it is all we have ever known, when we die I believe we will see a whole new reality.
If there is an afterlife (which there is strong indication toward yes), then that very well could be. quote: Until he knocks on my door and says "hi" then there is no god.
So your basically saying that if you don't know it that it doesn't exist. Did it ever occur to you that things can exist that are beyond your limited perception? I keep an open mind and accept several possibilities, including the one that we will never figure it out. quote: I am also agonistic, I don't know either way, and I don't think anyone can know either way.
Congrats, you hit the nail on the fucking head, there is no real way of knowing, so the best we can do is sit back and wait for a revelation/some sort of proof which will probably not happen, or find out when we die.

"That still doesn't solve the problem of how anything came to be."
Yeah. I know. I don't really give a fuck about how anything really came to be right now. I wasn't aware that I had to explain how everything came to be when I posted in this topic.
"If people make the God and the God makes the people then you have an obvious contradictory paradox."
I meant that there's a possibility that people completely knowing god only through their imagination is a true thing.

Re: Do You Believe In GOD?
Yeah, I kinda knew what you meant with the mentally creeating God thing, I just wanted clarification. That reminds me of an old theory that if you get enough people to believe in one thing that their combined mental powers create the thing, went out the window though.

Re: Do You Believe In GOD?
As for the "how we came to be" side of things - I don't know (obviously...) In my opinion, i'm gonna go for the science thing, but i'm not gonna completely dispell the idea of a being or power creating some or all of this and other planets. I guess we'll never know, or maybe we will... who knows?! But I don't see why or how religion is like it is today. If people wanna worship/believe/have faith in whatever being or power they believe there is, that's fine. But do you think that it's just some sort of safety blanket, so they can think that all the bad shit that's happenin is happenin for a reason? As for the bible - i think it's a load of bullshit made up to make us live how the 'leaders' of such religions want us to. I think that's how it all started - a few men decided to try and prove the idea of there being a god by producing his son and knowing they could then make people do what they waned them to. We don't have the scientific knowledge or equipment to determine whether or not this jesus guy WAS the son of god, and obviously they didn't then. I guess they got luckier than they ever imagined - having people follow what they said even now, 2000 years or so later. A God? >>>Maybe. Worshipping a god? >>>Fair enough. Religion dictating what to do? >>>Fuck no. It' just a socially constructed controlling mechanism. People who are religious and believe that 'god' created the earth, and refuse to accept other scientific theories - yet still believe ALL the shit they read in the bible can go to hell (you see what i did there? lol) cuz just like us athiests can't fully prove that god didnt create our world, you cant fully prove that all that shit is true. But we should let people believe what they wanna believe - they're going to anyway.

why do all the so called miracles have to be somehow related to "god". just because it is unexplained, it doesnt mean someone in the ninth dimension is doing all these things. everything is a mystery to someone who doesnt know the science. - [blackh0le]

well then doesnt this comes to "wheather 'god' wants good for humanity or not?" volcanoes are not a man made thing. people suffer. hurricanes are not a man made thing. people suffer. diseases are not man made. people suffer. if "god" did make this "world" we are living in, it would be better than what is now. - [blackh0le]

Re: Do You Believe In GOD?
quote:
Einstien Believed in God. The God of Israel too. God is not something to Debate. thats why its called Faith.
quote:
i cannot imagine a god who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own-- a god, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotism.
- Albert Einstien
this quote from Albert Einstien doesnt say if he believed in god or not, but it says what his thoughts were on "god". you can relate to see if he belived or not. - [blackh0le]

let me correct this. there might or might not be a god. but i dont think that he/she/it created this universe. quote:

i didnt meant to say that if there is no proof, it must be a fake. - [blackh0le]

Re: Do You Believe In GOD?
quite the contrary black hole, einstein very much believed in god.
that's just a statement saying he doesn't believe in the judeo-christian interpretation of god.
he rejected his very own theory of general relativity as being incomplete saying "god does not play dice".

Re: Do You Believe In GOD?
Two things about Einstein as I know them
1. The "god does not play dice" quote was in reference to the current state of quantum mechanics, not relativity
2. "No number of men can ever prove me right, but one man can prove me wrong" - Albert Einstein
Einstein beleived many things but knew that nothing can ever be proven, only disproven.

Dark_Magneto if you think like that then you are truly pathetic, wouldnt it be more reasonable to worship yourself rather then something that doesnt exist? You can help yourself, no god can help you. I mean really, youre the one that takes action.

Re: Do You Believe In GOD?
God exists to those who believe in him.
and "faith" is nothing but hoping somethign good will come from the bad.
And as for the cancers going away thought to be impossible. de-evolutoin.or an imunnity that struck late. who knows, who cares.
as for myself, i believe in the evolution theory.it makes complete since, and i also think that to human thinking, humans have,as you know, more advanced brains.and we are at the top of the food chain. and as for thinkign and shit, its from the hormones and neurons inside your body.
people believe in god because they want the turth, but they cant face it. and thinking that "superior" power is the answer. it's not.

Re: Do You Believe In GOD?
Your parents cant make you believe in God. thats why a lot of people turn from him.
I think there is an old proverb that says "You can invite them to the wedding but you cant make them show". sounds like Leading a horse to water doesnt it?
Im scared for the world. More people are now turning from God and chose not to believe anymore. I have my moments of doubt too. but i try and turn from them. there is more to this life then this life. I really believe something is waiting for you after this.

Re: Do You Believe In GOD?
I havent read this whole post, i cant be fucked. Im just going to put in my oppinion if i repeat something someone else has written, dont bother to point it out, i dont care.
Logic destroys any notion of a higher creature making us, Why would something deliberatly create humans, watch over them yet never show itself, and then condemn those who dont believe.
Did you know every religion has started as a cult, and are still run the same way. There just forms of mind control, and like a drug addict believes he can stop whenever he wants, the religious folk dont even realise it and will truely believe theirselves that its not. Almost everyone who joins a religion (whos not born into it.) Joins when something terrible happens to them, or there extremely lucky in some way, Why? because their looking for answers or an excape, and religion offers it.
We will never know what created us, its circular logic, Some will say the big bang.... but what caused the big bang, what caused the thing that caused the big bang, what caused the thing that caused the thing that caused the big bang...etc....etc..... Others say God created us, but what created god, and so on and so on and so on and so on.
To me believing in any religion is sheer stupidity, Its just a way for someone to give up responsibility, If something bad happens... God works in mysterious ways, If something good happens..... be gratefull youve been rewarded, its bullshit, yes everything happens for a reason, just because you cant explain it, it doesnt mean their isnt an explanation.
But i dont condemn religion, it does alot of good in the world, It helps the poor, it gives people strength to overcome personal demons, i dont choose it because i dont want to live a lie, just so i feel good about everything.
I take relief in the fact that what will be, will be, i stay true to myself, and live with no regrets.

have you ever heard of the placebo effect? in case you haven't: when scientists are testing new medicines, they have test groups. all patients are treated for the same thing, but are medicated differently. one group is given a current market medicine, the next is given the medicine being tested, and the third is given a placebo. the people who are taking the placebo think they are taking medicine, but really it's just a sugar pill or something. they use the data from the placebo group to compare and contrast to the group actually taking the medicine to judge it's effectiveness. the funny thing is that some of the people in the placebo group recovered on their own, without taking any drugs. this is because they believed that they WERE taking drugs, so they believed they would get better. and they did. the god stuff is the same damn thing.... simply the power of the human mind.

Re: Do You Believe In GOD?
I like to consider my self a "doubtfull christian" i dont really belive in god but i keep my belifes that there is a god for a backup so i dont have to spend an enternity in hell also the reason i am doubfull is that the idea that there is a majical man in the sky that watches you and has ten special rules he doesnt want you to break or else you will go to a bad place and spend an eterity in hell were you will burn and suffer - but he loves you.
