http://www.metricsucks.com/

WOAH!!! according to this site the typical metric system users are godzilla, Bevis & Butthead, Maralin manson, saddam, darth vader, rush limbah. (hit the reload button and watch!)

And look at this!
quote:

Upon careful examination it is clear that the metric system is at least indirectly responsible for most of the world's problems, including but not limited to:

* Government conspiracy
* Microsoft Windows
* Rap Music
* Hondas and their drivers
* Transistors
* Pokemon
* Jerry Springer
* Televangelism
* Toxic waste
* The Republicans
* The Democrats
* Defective and bogus hardware
* Wrenches that dont fit
* Starbucks coffee
* Communism
* Soccer
* The Euro

SHOCK!!!

I hate to throw cold water on people who are anti-metric, but sometime around 1793, Thomas Jefferson (President number 3) made the meter the official standard of measure for this country.

Bad things..?

*confusion*

Heres an odd one, but has anyone been exposed to the metric system tape series? With a theme song: The metric system, the metric system..., about a girl who gets lost in a parallel world where she must discover the secrets of... you know.

Haunting.

And Republicans and Democrats are probably bad, but...

Republicans + Democrats= Congress

And if pro is the opposite of con ,
Then what is the relationship between progress and congress ?

And so it can be understood that...

...we are to blame?

By refusing to accept the metric system you just further illustrate your ignorance and xenophobia. And besides, 15 centimeters sounds bigger than 6 inches.

If you get past the "humor" of the page they do have a very effective conversion page.

There's nothing wrong with the metric system itself. If you compare the two, metric makes a lot more sense than the "standard" system. The trouble, though, is that everyone in this hemisphere has been raised and conditioned to think standard. If we abolished the standard system entirely we would have two or three generations that would whine about it, but come the third the tables would turn and people will be saying the things they say about metric now to standard then.

There is nothing wrong with having the two systems alongside each other.

as long as satellites arent crushing into something because the 2 systems had been mixed up during the preparations ...

Imperial (what ya'll fools call "standard) measurements quite simply are archaic..

Science, physics esp, only really works right in metric..

I spent a while last year working for an engineering firm that did QC for things like foundations, roads, stuff like that..

It made me really sad that I had to have a huge hour long argument with my boss (the certified engineer) about how a cubic yard of concrete and a cubic metre of concrete had entirely different volumes of concrete in them, thus meaning he couldn't just convert the imperial measurements to metric measurements..

*sigh*

I'm make myself apt to use cubits.
Thats how they built a Ziggerought that Z. Stitchen says was a becon for spave travel back and forth between here and pluto.

And my grandmother may be a full blooded Venusion!
Compass that into your galactic sundial and you get the invisible co-ordinates for planet X; the dark karma planet directly on the other side of the sun?, thats ruled by the dark side of the force? Would you know whether or not you teleported there? Who's been noughty or nice? Check astronomy; is it backwards after you help the little old lady across the street? Is that for me to know, or you to find out? Just take Bobby Mcferrins advice and cut and pace....
