i hate abbreviations, they can get really stupid. I was recently given a book of text message abbreviations and they are quite incomprehensible, e.g.

CnlBrw10p2CLYaMa2THNKHr

which is supposed to mean:

can i borrow 10p to call your mother to thank her?

It bugs me too. It takes 1/2 a second to hit the extra 2 letters and type it right. The more shit like that that you use the closer you get to talking 1337.

I've been fighting this battle for years. That, and the whole debacle on FREE. (See above, in the forum). Here's a hint: Replacing common english words with silly and linguistically incorrect abbreviations makes your writing fragmented and hard to follow (and don't even get me started on the punks that get their one-letter abbreviations wrong), and makes you look stupid.

keyboard shorthand is stupid. type your fucking words like a real person would. do people think that typing 1337 makes them cool, cuz they can make a word out of numbers?

How U al doin? I h8 the way all the ppl I no use dis short hand crap. It pisses me off so much. The only reason people use this form of writing is in text messages when there's a limit on letters. If they made text messages a lot longer there would be fewer people using this crappy form of English.

i think "u" is an ok abreviation, fair enough when numbers and complete phonetics to the point of the word not being able to be read fluently is aplied it is annoying but just useing the letter/word "u" does not imply 1337 staus.

the point of 1337 shit is not to save time through keystrokes. id be willing to bet that it decreases efficiency by a significant figure. the point of it is for kids to think that they are cool because their message is half assed encrypted. its a child thing, any adult with a brain typing like that... oh wait, an adult with a brain wouldnt type like that.

thats one thing that i cant stand. my biggest complaint is people substituting numbers for sylables. like when the use the phrase m8 instead of mate.

some of it is acceptable like "lol lmao". allthough they are abreviations thay have taken on new meanings besides their literal translation.

1337 refers to how some people type in order to make others think they are cool. 1337 is how they would type leet(meaning elite). It's really a big pet peeve of alot of people. h4x0r is hacker,w43z is warez.

I make it a point to use proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar but anyone can slip up. Of course, I hate all the internet abbreviations. It's just so lazy.
