Re: One more right stripped from We The People
You know what this means. it doesnt just mean they can tap your phonelines now without warrent or put a listening device on your property, it now means they can kick your door in as well. if they have probable cause (which they will now with listening devices) be able to just kick your door in and take you away.
You know what happened in California about 4 or 5 years ago is the local Government had fined a local chain of retailers who sold listening devices. The name of the store chain was "The Spy Shop" or "The Spy Store" or something like that. They used to sell those devices that look like a little satelitte dish that you point at people a thousand yards away and can hear everything they say. they also sold wire tap detectors. you just plug it into your phoneline and if anyone is tapping in it turns on a little amber light. they had other stuff like unbrellas with tazer guns at the tip, and all kinds of other cool gadgets the police felt was a disadvantage to them. but what happens in situations like this is people bitch about the slight changes but it passes. the Government does these changes very slowly. soon all hand guns in America will be outlawed. then rifles and shotguns. then they might start knocking on doors and telling people to give up their firearms.
There is a corperate entity out there that onces to make the industrialized nations a "One World Order". You already see it happening in Europe. The Euro Dollar kicks into affect Jan 1st 2002. Although a few countries have asked an extention its gonna happen soon. Good Luck Europeans. I wonder if several countries that fall into Social unrest or even war will have an effect on the value of the Euro Dollar. what if 2 countrys that have the same currency decide to war with each other?

Re: One more right stripped from We The People
I always thought that lots of things that are ilegal to do that don't hurt anyone but you marijuana cultivation, possesion, and consumption, or any other drug for that matter, or things like that should be legal in your home.
now the cops can wait till it's darka nd you can't see outside and watch in through your window watch you change or shower or anything and just say it was because they thought you were a grower or something but they could jsut be fuckin voyeristic bastards.

Re: One more right stripped from We The People
The US gov't has been doing some really scary things lately man. The republican conservatives control the Senate (and will continue to do so if Strom doesn't just fucking die soon) and the courts are packed with conservative judges (from Nixon, Reagan, and Bush). That basically means strip rights and make the world a better place for big business.
The courts have been legislating since the US was 'born' but more than ever, recently. (esp. Civil Rights) The only way to stop "judicial legislation" is for Congress to write new legislation that changes court decisions, but since both are republican, as is the executive, Americans are totally fucked.

Re: One more right stripped from We The People
uhhh.. quote:
The bill would revise eavesdropping laws to allow warrantless recordings when officers have "probable cause" to believe a drug crime or prostitution was being committed, or that another felony was being committed and that the immediate circumstances made it unreasonable to obtain a court order.
quote:
Amendment IV The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Probable Cause has always been the standard for violation of privacy rights, that ain't much new bucko... [This message has been edited by Jadedfool (edited 04-27-2001).]

Re: One more right stripped from We The People
In my state we now have a daytime curfew for minors. If you are under the age of 18 and out of you house between 8:00 am and 1:00 pm they can pic your ass up. They did this to reduce the amount of kids skipping school. This totally pisses me off , the says outside, but the fuckin cops are going to peoples houses and looking for the kids and if you don't come to the door they just go in your fuckin house no warrant or anything. One house they went to the kid wasn't there so they went in and started searching the place. They found a shit load of drugs and busted him for it, it's bullshit . America is slowly taking away all of our rights. And who passes these laws anyway? What happened to the people voting on these things? We don't vote on them because the government knows that we won't screw ourselves.
Although we did prove them wrong for voting for that greedy bastard Bush.

Jaded, it's never covered spying in order to obtain information to get the warrent that they didn't have the evidence to obtain in the first place.
If you are suspected of growing pot because you "look the type" you can have you phone tapped until you incriminate yourself.
It's frightening, but I bet it'll be repealed.

Re: One more right stripped from We The People
I think another american revelution sounds good to me.
like the american goverment starts to lose its war on drugs and crime so what do they do they pass laws so they can keep everyone at bay.
then when they start to lose and they always will they just pass more pointless laws that hurt citezens and there democracy.

Re: One more right stripped from We The People
I have to ask this. The United States Government says it is Illegal to Smoke pot in your house but what about Adults smoking cigarettes in their home. Isnt this a gate way drugs? isnt this one of the worst things a person can do to themselves. And doesnt cigarette smoke cause SIDs in some children. and isnt that a form of "Child Abuse" to smoke around children? and should we outlaw alcohol near children as well. Shouldnt it be illegal to drink alcohol in your house if anyone under the age of 18 is present?
Fuck.. The US Government has way to many double standards.

great point Redrover.
Money talks that's all their is to it. When was the last time the govt did anything that really truly made sense? They do what they because they get or lose campaign money over their actions.

Re: One more right stripped from We The People
z3m,If I remember correctly the ruling is only in regards to people wearing wires, short term type thing, when there isn't time to get a warrant. I'm sure it'll be abused, but any long term undercover with a wire and no warrant 'll get thrown out faster then you can say lick my balls.
and "looking like the type" isn't probable cause. Smelling like dank, having bloodshot eyes, and laughing every 10 seconds is though...
