Re: Canada
... you also have to take into consideration how many people actually bother watching the Tom Green show... Take that number and think how many of them are Canadian or are offended by such content... (probably none) ... and out of that final group of people, identify the ones that would even bother to call MTV to complain... amazingly you're left with one.

I'm just trying to explore the deep physiological need that all americans seem to have to express their unabashed contempt of the 52'nd state.
I mean, I can totally understand some aspects of it, the whole clean thing, the constant holier than thou attitude, which always makes me laugh, etc etc...
but there has to be more...

legal drinking age in quebec is 18 and you can smoke at any age, you just can't buy unless your 18. (but we all know that rule is rarely put into effect) theres always a place that will sell alcohol and cigarettes to minors without asking for ID... don't get me wrong though, quebec still and always will suck.

The reason 21 is now the legal age to drink in America is that the average human body doesnt stop growing until th age of 21 yet the liver may not fully develope until the age of 25. This is one of the excuses congress was debating some years back to raise the limit to 25. Most kids 18 and under can not fully break down the alcohol in the blood stream. Can you imagine a bar where 16 year old girls are drinking next to 40 year old men? It might make it just a little to easy for her to loose her virginity to someone old enough to be her father. To allow 16 or 18 years old to drink alcohol would be a serious mistake.

Re: Canada
the entire idea of allowing or disallowing someones self destructive behavior is a bunch of bullshit. It's this whole philosophy of regulating morality that pisses me off.
So what if 40 year old guys and 16 year old girls are drinking together?
So what if they get drunk and stupid and end up in the sack?
It was their choice, they knew the dangers they were taking when they went into the bar and started doing flaming shots of tequila.
And if they didn't know, then they should have, we don't stop people from doing things because they lack knowledge, just look at the drooling masses who manage to vote.
The acceptable morality of this country is pretty sick and twisted, so why do you defend it?

Re: Canada
Example: Tipper Gore is the reason why we have Explicit lyrics stickers on certain cds. Yet Shopko and Wal-Mart, so called "family stores" sell these cds. Why because it makes them money. Also why is it that Pearl Jam's VS. cd had no explicit lyrics sticker on it when the word fuck is used over twenty times, but The Rollins Band cd weight(which came out about the same time), has a sticker on it. And the only "vulgar" word in it "fuck". Is used only once?

The legal drinking age where I come from is 15. So that doable here. Though 16 year olds tend to go to diffrent places than 40 year olds to have a good time... it's possible. Everyone gets along fine with it like this... but it's been so forever. The country couldn't raise the drinking age as much as the American governemt ban "the right to bear arms." ------------------ I have become death, shatterer of worlds.

and canada sucks and kebek sucks and they have both sucked since i've been here, 41yrs in kebek and 4 in NB., so what? everywhere else sucks too and even if the legal drinking age in que is eighteen, most people start drinking at around 14 or 15 and it doesn't make them any happier or wiser than the rest of the losers in this sucky province in this sucky country with our sucky southern neighbours. When we compare the USA and Canada we're really quite similar, both are "democratic" countries that vote arseholes into power every 4 yrs or so and love money more than we love our future generations.

All Quotes originally posted by White Witch: quote: The reason 21 is now the legal age to drink in America is that the average human body doesn't stop growing until the age of 21 yet the liver may not fully develop until the age of 25. This is one of the excuses congress was debating some years back to raise the limit to 25. Most kids 18 and under can not fully break down the alcohol in the blood stream.
That's true but countries where moderate drinking is excepted from very young ages like France and Sweden are the countries with the lowest levels of alcohol abuse. Does this tell you anything? quote:
Can you imagine a bar where 16 year old girls are drinking next to 40 year old men?
Jaded said it, a sixteen year old can make that decision but I think is unlikely to. When it comes to a girl losing their virginity I think it is more important that she is with some one who is going to be gentle and understanding rather than someone of the same age who may be rough inexperienced and insensitive to the girls need to feel safe. AND........ I've worked in bars since I wuz 18, I've worked in Biker, pub, locals, Club/Pubs, and Student Union Bars. I've been drinking since I can remember, apparently I was given gin to make me go to sleep when I was less than a year old. The problem with alcohol is that it is treated as a big deal and a right of passage rather than just something that's there. Working is a Students Union for a bit over a year now means I've seen a new crop of American students appear and they are the poorest at handling their drink and behaving in the bar when their drunk. This is cause they turn up in the UK and think its so excellent that they can drink so they get plastered. And if one more American asks me for a Screw Driver when they mean a Vodka and Orange I will hurt them. ------------------ ~Kameron Carpe Aptenodytes! (Seize the Penguins!)

Are you seriously suggesting that a 16-year-old girl who hooks up with a random full-grown adult male is going to have so much of a better experience than if she's with a (most likely) equally nervous boy of the same age? Aroo?
