Default Only in America?

I understand that soon the screenwriters in Hollywood may be going on strike , and naturally the actors guild is supporting them, as well as the baseball players have a potential strike strike coming up....Only in America could you see so many "millionaires" on strike ...it seems surreal, what a premium we place on these occupations.Maybe the public should go on strike against them ?

That's such bullshit... actors make millions... How much money did Tom Cruise make for MI2 (a horrible movie)? More money than I'll like ever make and they expect to use it all in their life time, AND they're not gettin enough money. That new movie Bruce Willis(?) is in, called "Hart's War" or something, cost like 60 million to make... and a third of that went to Bruce. Give me a fucking break. I'm not trashing Bruce, but ain't that ridiculous? And Baseball player.. where do they get the money to pay those guys. Millions to play baseball... another huge joke, that I don't get. Well, I say let them strike I could careless... no Baseball, no new movies from Holly Wood, there are other film industries that put out good movies. My life ain't gonna change because of this nonsense..............

I agree contra/fate ...it's sad that the masses do put such a premium on these things that allow these "critical" occupations to strike...
I have always been a bit leery of any mass popular phenomenom ...Baseball and Hollywoood need a reality check....but you know the money drifts always towards the masses and where they will spend it .....If only peoples taste weren't so bad....They suck up everything the movie mills churn out ..and only rarely do a few Gems slide through...

just thought i'ld clear up a few small points - the actors stirke in the u.s. is about pay but not the pay of the superstar actors, that is not up for question. but all the actors that are going on strike belong to one union, and the vast majority of actors in the us do not get much work and do not get paid very well when they do. It isn't about the small minoraty that do get good money, its about the vast majoraty that dont. and since the multimillionair actors are in the same union they must also strike. Which is a good thing, so please get your facts streight before you post, cos this has to of been the 5th post ive corrected today, thanx!

... that dosn't change the fact that these "super star" actors make a ridiculus amount of money for the very little they do.. and if this strike raises actor's wages won't it also raise theirs... and you still have to take into consideration that baseball players are also strikeing... I mean that ain't even a job.. and I can't imagine they belong to a union.

man piss on them

i'm boycotting movies, sports, Broadway, maybe if America stops paying the ridiculous prices 20 dollars to see a baseball game 10 dollars to see a movie they can actually save some up or spend it on a more worth cause and spread more of it around the community instead of just throwing it into the baseball players and movies starts already bloated bank accounts

the reason the small bit actors don't get paid much is the movie producers cant fucking aford it after paying arnold's or julia's or brad's or harrison's fucking sallery and they have the fucking nerve to strike with them bleh

Im not againsts unions i think they can be supportive in some ways. But they have abused their purpose in America. If you don't join a Union you dont work. and there is a catch 22. You cant join a union until you find a job first. You can't just walk into a union hall and join it. It makes it easier for union members to get their family members jobs. I will make a half hearted attempt at spelling this next word. NEPITISM!

I have my release card from Local 1 Hotel Union (Teamsters). Sister chapter of the workers who burned down a hotel in Puerto Rico in the 1980s. Hey im not proud of this. The Union shop stewert looked like someone out of a Robert DeNiro movie. Teamster Hotel Workers and Teamster Drivers union are some of the most feared in this nation. Im also a member of 870 commercial Foods. I worked for Safeway for 4 years. You want to talk about Job Politics.. Fuck you have to fit the mold. I think all these people that manage stores are all part of the same cult. The Church of Scientology cult. John Travolta is a member of it. Go on rotten.com and look at the picture of the woman who mysteriouslly died at a Scientology Camp. she has beating marks all over her body. and yet no one was arrested for this crime.

Most writers don't make "millions". Most struggle to make ends meet just like every other person. Not everyone in the movie and tv business is a millionaire.

I understand that all writers and all actors are not millionaires, it is however the type of profession that requires a certain acceptance of the fact that you are either very succesful or you struggle like the average bloke , but strike ? that has the same context as musicians on strike ...the concept is ..."I'll withold my work unless I get ______" so? go ahead turn blue in the face hold your breath ...you 'll soon be replaced ...it is the domain of intellectual property ....strike is a backwards way of achieving theri means ...like actors ...go ahead withold..I'll find Mr.Creep who will take your job! Baseball players striking are jokes ....
I was not trying to express their issues which I could care less...either write , act , shut up or get the fuck out of the way ...
Maybe you guys could donate to the SPCA society for the prevention of cruelty to actors.

About the screenwriter thing, I took a class on screenwriting in my hs for like three weeks for like 2hrs 30 mins a day and the teacher was an actual hollywood screenwriter. He was talking about how they were planning a strike.

The reason the screenwriters are striking is because they get absolutely no credit. Did you know that when they write a script and sell it to a studio, the studio becomes the "author" because they become the owner of the script. The studio then can do whatever they want with it; what they do, is bring in their specific team of writers and say "spice it up" or something of the like. So the actual author gets little to no credit for his work and the final script that is used in the movie is more often than not not his original work--it has been changed. The studio doesn't even need the screenwriters permission to do all this after they pay them the money! And btw, do you actually know ne names of ne screenwriters? of course everyone knows the name of the directors and actors like steven spielberg or whatever, but they are only setting up something that was already *created* for them. the screenwriter i feel is really the most important part because they actually make up the story--no other part of a movie can be made w/out a script, but a script can stand alone as a work. So these are the reasons the screenwriters are striking (that and the $$$).

Also, i thought that it was the producers who were also going to be striking w/ the screenwriters--they are the other guild who gets the least recognition out of the guilds that make up the academy.

As for baseball players, they just want the cash money =^0.
