Re: whats your Book List?
I really liked the Coldfire Trilogy by C. S. Friedman. 1.Dark Sun Risng 2.When True Night Falls 3.Crown of Shadows
It's kinda fantasy-ish, with a sci fi twist.

Re: whats your Book List?
Incredibly funny book, Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Probably qualifies as humorous fantasy.. but it is VERY VERY funny..
I would put serious books, but I believe in light relief sometimes, and everyone else put serious books, so on that note, if you feel like relating to the rest of womanhood and laughing more, I also suggest
Bridget Jones' Diary and Bridget Jones, The edge of reason Both by Helen Fielding..

Re: whats your Book List?
if you want scientific and spiritual i suggest the night's dawn trilogy by peter f. hamilton. the books are called the reality dysfunction, the neutronium alchemist, the naked god.
it's a trilogy of books set in the future where a satan(called god's brother) worshipper unleashes possesion on the galaxy in hopes to bring night's dawn. (warning:explicit violence and sex)
each book is about 1000 pages long.

Re: whats your Book List?
Add The Illuminatus Trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson to your "must read" lists.
I haven't heard of The War of Don Emannuels Nether Parts. The rest of your suggestions are excellent.
I'm reading William Gibson's Idoru right now.

Re: whats your Book List?
*doh!*
yeah, that and the crying lot 49..
De Bernieres has done some of the best fantastic reality writing that I've ever read, and most of it's gut splitting in addition. He manages to mix in a fair amount of theology without pulpit pounding in the least, I'd highly reccommend reading anything by him...

Re: whats your Book List?
thought 1984 (George Orwell) was poorly written as a fiction story. It revealed a political genius, and I suggest you read it once. But, the first third was annoying. Throughout the story the sense of hopelessness gave little reason to finish without a morbid curiosity. The IngSoc words annoyed THE HELL out of me.
What have i read recently.. hmm... Well, Robert Jordan is good, but i haven't touched that in a while. Zelazny is good. Gibson is good although Neuromancer was a bit annoying to follow. You never knew if he was talking about something specific or just another term for a common thing/place. Makes you think. But overall, i liked it, esp. the end.
why the fuck am i writing this? I don't really care if you read these or not...

Re: whats your Book List?
Hmmm... Dune by Frank Herbert, or anything else by Franks Herbert he gets into spiritual undertones a lot.
Ray Bradbury (more sci fi but he's good)
Robert Jordan and Roger Zelazny are both good but they both have written long interconnected series's so you need to have time.
Read the Lord of the Rings if you haven't already. Period end of sentence. There's no good reason not to read J.R.R. Tolkiens work. He founded the modern fantasy genre. If you haven't read him I highly recommend it. You'll find that virtually every fantasy writer everywhere steals from him in some way.
Hmmm... I'll get back to you on this I love to read and this is too good a question not to answer. I'm trying to find the time to read "the Tale of the Incomparable Prince" a 14th century Buddhist tale on how to lead a moral and good life. (Not that I'll follow the message but I love to read.)

Re: whats your Book List?
dune is a great book
i thought 1984 was great too, it was meant to make you feel hopeless, and i also find a lot of similarities in the world we live in today.

Re: whats your Book List?
Dune was awesome and so were *most* of the books in the series that followed. I recommend:
Snow Crash --Neal Stephenson
Startide Rising Uplift War Earth --David Brin
Heart of the Comet --Brin and Gregory Benford
The Foundation Trilogy --Issac Aasimov
The books by David Brin are excellent Sci-Fi, but if you are not into Sci-Fi I am not sure they would be the best recommendation.
And anything by Douglas Adams...
