Re: gaia
I can understand the theory, if we are composed of millions of cells that group together to do things for the whole, why not take that kind of thinking up another level, humans and animals being the cells, hell even plants and bacteria are cells, all doing something to help the greater good, cant think right now, strange mood, here is a quote
"...humans brought intelligence, sentience, self-awareness to the world, it cannot be denied. And that, by itself, was good. For how else could Gaia learn to know herself without a brain? That was our purpose-to furnish that organ-to serve that function for our living earth. But what have we done? What kind of brain slays the body of which it is a part? What kind of thinking organ killsthe other organs of its whole? Are we Gaia's brain? Or are we a cancer? One she'd be far better off without...?"

Re: gaia
"Gaia," may represent something else besides a physical thing. It may represent the earth's balance in the natural world.

Re: gaia
yes i think that sickness is the natural way of controlling population, humans started fucking up the planet when they began using technology to cure sickness, prolong life, save those who otherwise would have died, we totally screwed up natural selection, now the human population is way out of control, causing a disruption of balance in the entire planet. I think nature should still decide who dies and who lives... even thought that means i would most likely be dead, but the world would be a better place with less people...
Edit: here is a website that most of you have seen but its got some good gaia info http://deoxy.org/gaia/index.htm

Re: gaia
if gaia is real then all the other greek gods must be real and to the person who asked if gaia was from captain planet, yes she was the spirit of the earth. But as to her existence, i dont know, i guess its a matter of opinion.

Re: gaia
I believe it to some extent. The main problem is that it's a theory and is limited by the boundaries of the human mind and experience. Other than that it makes perfect sense.

Re: gaia
Gaia was a greek goddess (and the template for the Captain Planet Character, with good reason). I like the way that teh concept has been portrayed (here and elsewhere) and makes sense.
the message is simple, be respectful to the planet and we will survive, strip it bare, and we'll get clawed hard.

i think our friend fooshie here was in the great migration from bombshock, therefore upon seeing a forum of intelligent discussion about issues that dont invlolve blowing things up, thier tiny minds snap and the result is a return to fifth grade insults and running away...

Made up. A planet is a rock with no life force of any kind.[sarcasm] Does an asteroid complain when you blow it up? Life force of a non living thing? sure[/sarcasm]
