Re: health benefits of becoming vegan
negative health benefits, it really is only done for moral reasons. To be succesful as a vegan you need to plan your meals out extremely well, and take supplements. It's also a lifestyle that includes everything like what you wear, and any products you consume, right down to not getting photos developed a certain way because they use some sort of animal product.
I'm almost a vegatarian, I think it is very healthy, but pushing it too far is not good for you.

Re: health benefits of becoming vegan
i agree with tryp, i'm a vegetarian for about a year now, but buying honey that was "humainly" excracted from bees (which my vegan friend does) seems a little overboard. It would also be expensive and time consuming to be vegan, as you have to go to special stores and such...

Re: health benefits of becoming vegan
I asked the same question in school one day and the general reply is that you eat only plants and plant products. That means you do not eat eggs, drink milk, or anything that is remotely related to an animal. I suppose honey is excluded too, since it is an internal fluid of an insect, filled with it's saliva, proteins, and enzymes.
Such a thing is really not healthy, a human body is designed by God to be an omnivore. A balance of animal and vegetable foods suits our diets.

Re: health benefits of becoming vegan
i hate that people keep saying that, but its wrong, human beings have most the traits of herbavores, such as flat teeth used for grinding, and a long intestine system that is needed to digest plant material, if we were supposed to eat meat we would have pointed teeth, like a dog... god created us smart enough to study our diets and refrain from eating meat... or something

Re: health benefits of becoming vegan
Segue, I don't want to put you down as I don't really know you and I have a feeling I'd like you but.....
You are ignoring basic facts. Humans have teeth designed for biting and tearing(incisors and canines) as well as flat molars for grinding. Plus we don't synthesise complete proteins so we need to gain them from our diet and doing it completely through plant materials alone is inefficient and dangerous from a survival standpoint.
Not to mention that humans digestive system is NOT designed for a solely plant diet, we do not have a cecum anymore (this is what the appendix used to be) Nor do we re-ingest our feces or cud(like many plant eating mammals do)
All evidence points to us being omnivorous, with an emphasis on plant matter.
Yet living in a time where survival is not as difficult we are lucky to be able to choose our diet based on preferences and our own morality.

Re: health benefits of becoming vegan
dont worry about it tryp, the reason i'm on here is to learn and get diff. perspectives, it does seem that humans are suited for both diets, i diddent even know what a cecum was, but that makes sense, however i see that you are saying that a veg. diet would be non-sustaining in a survivial situiation, i agree with that because most vegitarians i know, including myself take supplements for the stuff we dont get from meat, that and i dont really eat a balanced vegan diet, but oh well... it would be really hard to find a balanced diet of plants only in nature, but in our society its much cheaper to be a vegetarian than to eat meat, and much healither too. so why do you think we were desinged like this? i think it is a result of evolution that found a way to let a creature choose its diet based on where they live or what they belive in, not many other creatures have that... ok, i'm rambling just woke up, if you find a point in there let me know, i'm going back to bed

Save the fucking animals, eat a vegan.
Any guy who is a vegan probably gets chicks only because he is a FAG. Yes that is a generalization. And a damn true one too hah.

if you dont realize that the current rate of consumption by humans of natural resources, such as food water, fuels, is NON-sustaniable for more than 10 or so years then you are ignorant. Go do some research on it

Unfortunately most people don't care until it inconviences them in one way or the other. Now getting back on topic. There are some definite benefits to not eating or reducing meat in one's diet. It also can be very unhealthy if done incorrectly, best to consult your physician. I also think it's ignorant to ridicule those who do not eat meat.

vegans even have to buy special condoms, because "regular" condoms have some sort of animal bi-product on them.

I can relate on this one. Steaks are tricky, you have to marinate them just right with the right stuff in the proper proportions or they won't turn out all that great.I have eaten steak 2 times that I have actually liked it and it wasn't just a dead piece of bland meat in my mouth, so I don't eat much steak. Had it plenty of times but only those 2 times was it actually good.

[QUOTE]Originally posted by segue: [B]joe i'm starting to think you really are stupid,
And what makes you think you are any smarter? Because I disagree with you? Don't get me started on that one. And calling me stupid? OH NO!!!! YOUR A BIG DOODIEHEAD BECAUSE YOU CALLED ME STUPID!!!!! Not the first nor the last that will be said about me. If you want to insult me then do it by e-mail, ICQ, or to the shrine in the Bitch and Moan. If not we can go all day.
or just trying to boost your post count,
Since I'm "new" as Kingenrage pointed out in the shrine he/she made, I don't know what posts do for you, I can tell you however, that I could give a rusty fuck about number of posts. Is it because you are jealous? Maybe who knows? Aren't you the one who said "Assuming makes an ass of you?" well spoken, so practice what you preach.
well i'll tell you right now the number of posts means nothing,
I said it before And since I hate repeating myself I won't say it again.
what you say when you post does, yeah i'm a vegatarin who eats at fast food every night, i love those microwave steak dinners too...
I'm not perfect, neither are you, So don't pretend you are. Typos happen with the best typists occasionally and I'm not the best. neither are you
do you see something wrong with the above statement...
Yes I do, thank you for pointing that out. I'm just awestruck by your intelligence
i havent touched fast food in a year and a half,
Neither have I
and yes every vegan i know eats microwave dinners all the time, i cant remember when i last bought something you heat in the microwave for dinner,
Including you? if so, Do YOU see something wrong with that? if not, then I stand corrected.
dude you have a serious problem, are you just trying to provoke people or what,
Segue, Fellow Totse member, I humbly apologze on my knees and big for your mercy If I have offended you, I had no idea that you would get SO bent out of shape over a simple disagreement. If you get so worked up because I think that meat AND other food groups are healthy then being a vegetarian, then you need some serious help, get your head looked at before you get married and beat your wife when she wants to eat meat. Once again, do yourself a favor and get your head examined
because your posts of late have been useless and pointless..
I could say the same about your posts. Would you like me too? no of course you don't.
try this, think before you post its new for you i know but trust me it will help
Trust you, Not as far as I can throw you. One thing I do admire you for is that while we strongly disagree on most things we do on a few, or at least not fought over them.
