Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net.

Default I got connection on LAN, but no internet

Recently I tried playing a game on the DS with the wifi and I couldn't figure out the WEP code so I tried getting into my Netgear WGR614v6 router, but forgot the password for that as well.

So, from the suggestions I read on Google, I did a full reset to factory settings, and I was able to set everything how I wanted, still had DHCP on and all the automatic ip addresses and other shit. But when I tried to get on the internet from my other pc that uses a wireless adapter, I could not surf the internet, I had no internet connection whatsoever. What baffled me was that I had a strong signal from the router, so I tried to repair connection with windows and it told me that I couldn't renew the IP add. I had made sure the WEP code was right and all and tried it without. Tried pinging google too but was told that it couldn't find the server. This is my first problem.

The second problem began today, when the computer that is near the router and uses wired internet, could not surf the internet either. It worked before I went to bed. So I tried resetting and installing new drivers, no change. What pissed me off was that it was sending and receiving packages. But fucking Firefox would just give me the 'server not found' message. The internet works fine without the router, but the router is essential. I had a DNS assigned, and all other IP, subnet mask. I am just so angry that I have a local area connection, but the router is mysteriously fucking it up. Any help would be severely grateful.

In CMD I type ipconfig and there was nothing in the DNS Suffix space, would that have something to do with it?

It's more likely you wiped out a vital setting on your router.

Does your router get assigned an IP adress/gateway? If not, do a power reboot, i.e turn off your router for 5-10 min and check again.

This. I'd actually do a power reboot on both your modem and your router. Modem first, then router.

looks like you need to get your DNS server IPs.

go to your web browser and type in http://64.233.169.103

that is one of google's IP's and if google english comes up then that confirms that your problem is simply you do not have your DNS server IP

Solution: call your ISP and ask them for the DNS server IP addresses. They should be able to tell you this and if you put that in in TCP/IP properties in your network connection settings then it will fix your problem.
