Default What good have you done as a Human Being?

Here are a couple of things i would want to do.
1) Teach the people of the third world about not urinating in public places.
2) I would be happy if i can change people's mindset on Racism, hatred of fellow men ...

1) The title of this thread should be "what good deeds do you want to do as a human?"

2) I want to share the clarity of life through the beauty of music.

This thread is flawed. Just think about your title, man. It doesn't make any rational sense.

A few big problems with that "good deeds" trip. Who defines what is good? In Nazi Germany, it was a good deed to turn your Jewish neighbor in to the Gestapo. To the Inquisition, it was a "good deed" to torture a heretic to death in order to save his or her soul. Righteousness all too quickly and easily slips into self-righteousness. I will say this--if you want to change the world, change yourself.

To me and those others who espouse the Perennial Philosophy, the main goal and end of life is to achieve unitive knowledge of the Divine Ground of existence. No doing of good deeds is required--just purity of heart and poverty of spirit.

Someday you will realize that your soul is not about doing--it is about being. Given that life is eternal, what one does or does not do in any single lifetime is of little consequence in the long run.

Sounds like a copout.

Buckminster Fuller once said "Live your life as an experiment". Try something new, become an example of a new way to live.
"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." - Ralph Emerson
I look at things along those lines. I guess I would say I treat my life as an artwork. The purpose I've given my self is not to reach ever higher levels of personal enlightenment, my purpose is to create things. I do my best to add to the complexity of the world. I do this with my art and through my relationships with others. It's about increasing the resolution of reality.
It is true that the years we spend on earth are a tiny fraction in terms of geological time. Once we die and return to gaia or dissapear forever or whatever you chose to believe, our efforts in life will be but a drop in the ocean. That ocean however is one of limitless beauty and detail and I'm thrilled to participate in its creation.

I've done some "good" by not doing a whole lot of "bad." Chaotic neutral.

I have often contemplated doing some good as a human being by contracting AIDS and spreading it around via foodstuffs.

I regularly donate plasma, the yellow liquid within blood.

Donate to Red Cross also.

I don't give money to homeless. Fuck the homeless. I overheard some beggar saying she makes over $25 an hour from begging, fuck that.

Giving plasma and donating blood are not noble efforts; you participate in that because you can get paid doing it. Your attitude towards homeless people, who have been fucked by the system, indicated that you have no sympathy for your fellow man or anyone but yourself for that matter. What charities have you given to that offer no monetary reparations? Also giving blood is a trend so it really can't be considered good will, as many people do it for no reason other than saying they did it.

Well, I also donate blood, but I mainly do it for the free chocolate I get afterwards and the chance to get hammered with one beer.

And I also volunteer at the local animal shelter at weekends.

Agreed, and a selfish asshole might well use that argument to justify his or her selfish assholery.

Thing is, what I talk about is only one of five or six different yogas. The best known is of course hatha yoga, the exercise/posture thing. Other yogas include the way of meditation, and the way of doing good works, and I would not presume to judge which is "better." Whatever floats yer boat.

That said, I still maintain that the three greatest things are faith, hope and charity, and the greatest of these is charity. (None of these need involve action.) "Charity", however, is a mistranslation of the Greek "caritas", and is better called "unconditional love." This in the sense that we are urged to love our neighbor as ourself.

While I kind of agree about giving blood being a trendy 'charity', don't knock money-back aid programs. Take kiva.org for example. It lets people microfinance 3rd world businesses by loaning them money. When they repay the loan you can withdraw it again or you can loan it to another business.
I loaned 300 bucks to some dude in kenya to repair his motorbike taxi.
I think this sort of thing is better than pure donations. People and nations develop dependency if all they get is handouts, although on the lowest level they're always gunna need some (people starving and homeless really can't pay off loans for example).
