burnt out my gaba receptors?
Today I've taken 10 1 mg klonopins and 4 1 mg ativans...and I am NOT high. I've been prescribed to various benzos for over a year now and I wonder if I simply 'can't' get high off them anymore...anyone else experience this? Have I just burnt my GABA receptors right out? Well, I know thats not really the way it works, but why can't I get high anymore? 2mg of xan used to be a night for me!

It's called tolerance my freind...
I've been using benzos for years and no matter what dose I take I can never get high off them, it just doesnt happen anymore. Either stop using them and let your tolerance die down or except the fact that they just wont work as good as they used too. You dont even want to know the dosages I have to take just to kill a panic attack

Re: burnt out my gaba receptors?
Being on 3mg/day of Kpin I havn't had a panic attack in quite a while, but when I do, I can kill it with litterally .5mg of xanax. On the other hand, I CANNOT get high off them no matter how many I take. I hardly ever try because kpin is worthless for recreation, but it was new years eve and I had a bunch of extra pills (i got killer insurance) so i said 'fuck it'.

You know, there is an upper limit to benzo effects, which is why it's hard to OD on them. As far as I know, once your GABA is 100% utilised by the receptors, adding more benzos will have no effect. This could be why you don't get high any more. More tolerance means you're closer to the limit, so less effects.
I think alcohol and other GABA drugs might still add effect though.
This could be a problem for those with ever-increasing tolerance, although I'm no expert and could be wrong.

Re: burnt out my gaba receptors?
That would make sense...I've heard of 'ever upward spiraling tolerance' occuring in a few people. Guess it's time to get some better drugs.

Re: burnt out my gaba receptors?
Yea i didnt have benzos for awhile n shit like over a month then i ate 6mg of alprozalam and 21mg of clanazapam and wasnt shit happening. I think other drugs burn your shit out, like my brain doesnt work for shit no more, off subject but shits across the board like i can take 300mg of seroquil and not be knocked out.

My withdrawal took about 4 months, and even now I sometimes wonder if this is how I felt before. That was from about 8 months of 5mg clonazepam/day.
Your brain/body has a lot of GABA receptors and takes a long time to "regrow" them. Basically it's usually gonna be at least several months of withdrawal from dependence for your body to reset itself.
That would make sense...I've heard of 'ever upward spiraling tolerance' occuring in a few people. Guess it's time to get some better drugs.
Or become an alcoholic...
The honeymoon period of your benzo use is officially over. Only a relationship of ever-growing tension and the inevitable break-up remain.
Something I just thought of: try making some tea with several teabags (3-5) and drink it. Theanine increases GABA levels apparently, so it could be fun with benzos. Honestly can't remember if it worked.

I think it depends how much anxiety you have normally. If you're usually calm, it probably isn't as much fun to be excessively chilled out.
I noticed that when I went on an SSRI, clonazepam killed the mood lift and made me depressed. I heard that clonazepam has unique effects on serotonin so I'm not sure about other benzos.

um yeah alcohol is bad for you, your point is? i could be sitting here nitpicking the negative health effects of benzos but i'm not... i'm just saying benzos have no euphoria for me and they make me sleepy, and it doesn't feel that great....i'd rather drink beer, idk how your so ignorant saying benzos are safer than alcohol

Re: burnt out my gaba receptors?
Hahaha, dude, you're so fucked.
I gave a legit reply to the other thread 'cause I thought you really needed them. You can't use them medically and recreationally.
And this is fairly common. When I get my script, 2mg is what I need. By the end (a week later) its more like 8-10mg, and I can't get high.

I'm not ignorant, it's just a fact. Getting drunk takes WAY more of a toll on your body than popping some xannies...
