Default The Poison Thread

So what if you wanted to poison somebody?
What would you use?
Something rare or everyday products?
Quick and painless death or slow and painful?

Edit: How detectable would your poison be? If victim goes to a doctor while alive would he know whats up? What if he's dead, would the autopsy reveal anything?

The most obvious choice is antifreez, its sweet and kill in 10 min. or pure nicotien, two drops ensures the person will live no longer than 2 min. and then nicotien sulphate -or sulphite, i can never remember- is absorbed through the skin, and found in some fertalisers.

Ricin. Easy to make (watch out ordering the shit to make it online feds are tracking 5lb orders and larger) and most deadly poison. Once it hits your bloodstream within 3 days you are dead and there isn't a thing in the world that can save you.

anti-freeze seems like a great idea
but how much is a lethal dose and how do you get them to drink it
mix wit gatorade?

Well, yes all you need to do is mix it with a sweet drink. if your at a party pour a can in to the punch bowl. im not too sure on the exact amount, as it changes depending on the person. id say at least 100 ml, thats kinda average.

I would opt for an organophosphate (pesticide). The whole "Huff Raid" thing is overused but it would work.

If you have ever seen an insect that was just sprayed, in a minute or so it will convulse uncontrollably. When you up the scale to a human and a significantly larger dose, same effect.

Is it traceable? hell yes, but its effective, brutal and somewhat inconspicuous as it could potentially look like a seizure.

Whoever said spike the punch with ethylene glycol, think again. Ethanol (alcohol) is an antidote to ethylene glycol poisoning. Although if you put in enough its a good idea.

well actualy punch tends to cotain very little alcohol. i did think befor posting. i was only trying to give an example of a sweet drink to poison. also poisoning an entire punch bowl with antifreez is very impractical. in hindsight i think i should have mentiond alcohols rather adverse effect on antifreez.

Alcohol will only combat the effects of the methanol in the antifreeze. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methanol#Toxicity
Methanol is a shitty poison to pick. You don't know how much you need, its hard to get into somebody without force, and it takes too long to kill. If you try this at least they might get blinded :D

This on the other hand http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethylene_glycol_poisoning#Toxicity should be mixed with some sweet, sweet lemonade on a hot summer's day. If the victim is known to be a heavy drinker add some to his drinks if they are mixed or flavored. He'll be too drunk to notice and people won't suspect he's actually dying when he passes out. The longer they stay away from the hospital the smaller the chance they have of surviving. A large enough dose and a day away from the doctor is sure death. Anything else will just fuck the rest of their life up. Look for embittering agents in the antifreeze as well or it will lose the famous taste that dogs and cats around the world love so much.

Check out http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/14.08/start.html?pg=4 for some other, better poisons.

A college level organic chemistry class with lab will do wonders for your ability to make drugs, explosives, and deadly poisons.

A typical full flavor cigarette has between .8mg and 1.1mg of nicotine so if you could extract a whole pack of cigarette and get nothing but the pure nicotine you will have about 30mg of pure nicotine the third most dangerous poison known to man. It only takes 30mg (very small) to kill any human on the planet when injected into the blood stream.

All these seems great ideas for quick deaths, but how about a slow one?

for a slow death... kinda tricky with poison depending on how "slow" we are talking. If by slow you mean over the course of a day or two, or a few weeks. Although if i was so inclined, i would poison them gradually with a fat-soluble poison. Then starve them so their body breaks down the fat, (which is saturated in poison) for its energy. Im not sure if there is a substance which would allow for this gradual dosing without killing them before we get to the starving.

Thallium is a hellish poison that will cause a most agonizing demise, and can be quite hard for doctors to detect, misdiagnosis is not uncommon. You can easily slip it into your victim's food and drink, but it might take a while before the symptoms rear their ugly head. It will cause at first: crippling stomach pain, hair loss and vomiting. The downside is they must be poisoned on a routine for it to effectively damage the body. The hospital soon will be mandatory for your victim

After a few weeks of poisoning, even worse symptoms will show up such as blindness, intense pain from nerve endings, major abdominal pain, ataxia and when the neurologic conditions begin, even the mind will no longer be a safe place as psychological and delirium show up. Sometimes, even a harness for the victim on his/her stretcher will be necessary.

Eventually, after a few weeks, or months, depending on dose of thallium the body will no longer be able to deal with the damage and even if the cure is found, there's not a damn thing that can be done for the victim.

Quite a torturous poison, although the big downside is that there is no single dose, it must be administered every so often, preferably daily, but it is a way that no one would ever, ever want to die.

Thallium has another drawback that can aid in diagnosis, it creates lines in the victims fingernails. Although if i'm not mistaken other heavy metals also do this. The problem with heavy metal poisonings are that they need to be administered over a period of time, are rather easy to diagnose at times (Blood test....). Even if they don't know which metal is the poison most of the treatments are the same, or very minor variations are present.
