Most efficient?

Soak in a bag with rubbing alcohol. scrape the resin in chunks out of the pipe and into rubbing alcohol. Once pipe is clean, remove from bag. Pour liquid containing resin into a jar, shake, and filter through fine mesh prewet with alcohol.

Squeeze last drops out of filter.

Evaporate alcohol on a plate on low temperature. That's your higher grade.

Scrape the remaining gunk tar resin off filter. Either repeat process, or let gunk dry out on a plate and there's your lower grade.

you throw it out and get a glass one ;)

I mostly use my glass pipe but I'll use my metal pipe when I want to be portable. I like how you can take it apart. using screens is a bitch though and well yeah glass beats metal by a lot.

Anyway, I usually just take it apart and scrub it with an old toothbrush. Nothing but how water and soap. Gets the job done.

Why would anyone prefer a glass pipe? Metal won't break or chip like glass will if you drop it on something hard like a rock or tile floor. Also, the goo can get you extremely high if you smoke it, especially if you've been smoking great weed from the pipe, but it's not really worth it. Too nasty. Just get more weed.

Hmm dude, glass is so much better than metal in pipes for many reasons:
1.Just like beer bud tastes batter from glass then from metal.
2.It does not heat up as much so you can smoke several bowls from it without running the risk of burning your hands.
3.Nothing beats seeming the smoke fill up my glass pipe before I let go of the carb.
4.For some reason I seem to find screens are rarely needed when smoking from glass. If anything I'll occasionally use a small pebble when I am smoking very good weed and am loading about half a bowl. Most metal pipes I've smoked from need a screen if you didnt want ash in your mouth. I said most not all.
5.In regards to size and pound by pound. Glas pipes cool smoke more.
6.It's cool looking at the colors changing in your pipe and its also cool to be able to see al the residue inside it.
7.I've received many complements on my glass pipe but never on my metal pipe.
8.Glass is just more appealing to the eye.

I'm not putting down metal pipes. They have their place in the world of pipes. Thats why they are made and bought. But I doubt anybody would rather smoke out of metal than glass.

-- that I'd use to scrape out large chunks of resin, and then clean the threads. After that a good soak in a warm alcohol solution usually dissolved everything else, and then I'd give it one good rinse and a quick dry before using again. Good as new.

I'd just disassemble my metal pipe, hold a piece with a pair of pliers, heat the piece up with a hand held butane torch, inhale the smoke with a straw, put the piece down on the concrete, pick up the next piece and repeat.
Once I've smoked ALL of the resin, knowing that nothing got left behind thanks to bypassing the entire scraping process, I just let the pieces soak in a jar of rubbing alcohol or some glass cleaner concentrate and use my other pipe for smoking until that one is done soaking. Once that pipe is done soaking I just rinse it, let it dry, reassemble it, and hide it responsibly and out of reach of children.

This method reduces the amount of damage that your pipe eventually gets after being scraped too many times. I hate to see the chrome finish on the inside of the bowl slowly disappear and then give my smoke a copper taste.

I've had both kinds of pipes, and the smoke was not cooler with a glass pipe, a screen is still required but harder to get into place with a glass pipe, I've never had a problem with a metal pipe heating up, I don't need to smoke several bowls but if I did it still wouldn't heat up a metal pipe, I did not notice any taste difference between glass and metal pipes.

Metal pipe? Small drill bit, find one that fits in a 'Brace & bit' hand type drill.
or clamp a vice clamp onto the small drill bit for a handle.

Or, stick a peice of heatproof plastic tube onto the metal pipe stem, you can extend it with a normal plastic tube if you want.
Get a bunch of you around a gas torch or gas stove or even a electric stove.
Now put the pipe on the stove & heat it up so the resin burns & you get to suck the smoke out thru the tube.

to clean my pipe i use a screwdriver from one of those small sets. i take my pipe apart and then just scrape out all the shit. the flat head is the perfect size to clean it nicely and you can save your resin easily this way too.

I can't believe some of you people smoke resin. Disgusting.

Gotta admit, theres nothing like the resin scraped from the inside of a spotting bottle at the end of a days session...

resin gets you higher than most weed does and it's the product of all your hard smoking sessions. i enjoy smoking resin personally but thats just me.
