Future of Drugs
I would like to see what other totseians believe the future of drugs are. I am not wondering about the legal aspects (as in pot getting legalized), but rather they type of compounds which will likely appear or become more prevalent.
My guess: more stuff like bromo-dragonFLY, a general growth in RC's, tobacco becoming less prevalent, and a brief surge in 2C-I in the near future.
You?

Re: Future of Drugs
they will have drugs that with a single puff you'll completely forget yourself.....
*tokes up the pcp*
really how the fuck would any of us have a remote idea?
Im going to say weed stays. I think with an overly complex lifestyle stimulants are going to become normal and socially accepted(like vyvanse will be the new coffee) and benzos and opiates will be the new recreational drug.

Re: Future of Drugs
It's kind of an interesting sociological question, isn't it? The economy is shit world-wide and is going to get worse and stay that way for at least 2-3 years, so I'm going to guess something euphoric and cheap will become more popular. Perhaps benzos as well. Alcohol will certainly go up. Cigarettes will continue their decline. Weed and psychedelics will probably stay the same. I'm really not sure about stimulants.
On a related note, isn't Shulgin supposed to be cooking something up? A new book with a lot of cacti- and poppy-derived analogues? That should be exciting, and I think some poppy-derived drugs would fit the bill for "euphoric and cheap".

Re: Future of Drugs
How far in the future are we talking here?
Considering the possibility of cyborgs -- technological implants in humans -- I think the future (distant) in drugs could lie there. Whenever a day may come that humans all have computer implants in their nervous system, I imagine there being a way you could plug in and alter your consciousness in a variety of ways.
Until then, weed will continue to grow in potency and more designer drugs will surface where Shulgin left off. If I remember correctly, stupidnoob pretty much said that Shulgin left an open template in which the possibilities of psychoactive chemicals are practically endless.

That one is already out.
Look up "the simple plant isoquinolines", shulgin is working on a new comprehensive psychedelic index at the moment so that should be pretty interesting.
I'm guessing alot of the obscure analogues of our favourites will start to replace or supplement them.

minus some scientific discovery or witnessing some scary trends of long term use, i doubt the five most commonly used drugs would change much if at all...
even if the war on drugs gets amped up..

Re: Future of Drugs
A legal stimulant that feels as good or better than adderall.
And it'd be better if it had less side effects but if it had the same dangers and side effects as adderall that'd be fine.

Re: Future of Drugs
I think that it is mostly influenced by what is easiest to get the precursors to. Of course all of the growables will remain, but as for synthetics, I have heard that DOx and 2c-x are the easiest chems to obtain precursors to nowadays.

Drugs have always been and will always be part of life...
As for what to expect, who knows...
I wish for psychs to make a comeback....
Prescription pills are the new mainstream drugs, at least in my area....
spl1ff, meth is already in the eastern US, at least in the southeast... i know a good deal of meth users...

Re: Future of Drugs
I'm certainly no expert, and I base this off-of nothing other than personal opinion; but I think that on a worldwide basis that the use/abuse of methamphetamine/other amphetamines and cocaine/crack will become more prevalent. The popularity for alcohol will increase significantly, whereas the popularity for tobacco will decline at an exponential rate. Marijuana will increase in popularity, and there will either be very non-severe punishments, or no punishments at all for simple possession.
Both the legitimate and non-legitimate use of benzos will increase on a massive scale. There will be many people, who as a result of the current economic decline will be going to their doctors complaining about stress and anxiety. As the amount of prescriptions issued increases, so will the non-legitimate use of benzos. Since there will be more prescription benzos lying around the houses of families - more teenagers will decide to experiment with drugs, and will take their parents meds.
The use of hallucinogens, in my opinion, will still only be used by a certain group of people, and won't really become any more wide-spread. The drugs that will become the most common will be drugs that are A) cheap and B) stress-relieving/euphoric - so meth, MDMA, alcohol and pot.

Re: Future of Drugs
IMO there is so much potential for RC's, skilled chemists should cook up a bunch of interesting compounds, with a few gaining widespread popularity...weed will probably become more socially accepted and the punishments should (hopefully) be less severe or maybe if were lucky, decriminalization.
but in the distant future, like some others have said, if there are implants for the brain and CNS, then i dont see why somebody wouldnt find/create some way to alter your mood

Re: Future of Drugs
Stimulants will go up and when RC's are more plentiful and more perfected they will definitely go up too, in fact I bet they'll replace the xtc of our generation.

Re: Future of Drugs
Just what I'm thinking not anything based on fact:
-Legal stimulant thats compareable to amphetamine in euphoria and strength
-I think there will also soon be a legal alternative for benzos or maybe even weaker benzos made otc
-Script benzos will rise, especially in teens.
-I think as far as psychs go, shroom use will either slightly grow or just stay the same, acid will just drop unless some one tries and makes a comeback with some real good lsd on a large scale. Don't really know anything about RCs but they they do look as the things of the future for both club drugs and psychadelics.
-Prescription abuse will rise even more, mainly among teenagers
-Meth will become even more prevalent.
-Ecstasy use will probably drop when people realize most pills are shit now. As a culture we won't be looking for that empathetic high though and more just a good party drug that won't have you realizing your inner demons (or at least won't have you telling them to the stranger standing next to you.
-And fuck, I'm also just hoping ketamine becomes more mainstream and not just limited to the club scene in the next few years. I just really want to try it so thats just what I hope will happen lol.
But ya this is just what I think will happen, nothing that can be proven will happen just a random guess about the future.
EDIT: Oh ya and the amount of responsible drug users will decline since hardly anyone is looking for real mind expanding experiences but just a good time. Addiction will probably be a lot bigger too.
I bet in the next 30 or 40 years almost half of the United States population will have a script for an addictive medicine (mentally or physically addicting).

This I can see...
My vote for this decade...meth. period.
As for meth not 'hitting' the east coast yet. There has been more than 60 meth labs and pounds and pounds of meth shut down and taken by our local drug enforcement task force in the last 3 months.
Meth is cheap, easy, euphoric as all hell. It will continue to spread.

In Ontario right now, Home cooked ketamine is becoming huge! It has slowly been growing over the last few years, and now with enough work and a drive to toronto, I could semi-easily find upwards of a pound of pure crystal ketamine. The prices for K have dropped soooo much. I could get a QP for a grand even.
And, it seems to be becoming more of a recreational "junky" kind of drug. Maybe I am not wording that properly. But K is very popular with the opiate loving crowd. And, I think that a lot more research on drugs will start being done, hopefully, and if so, I hope that it isn't found out that all of us have been eatin/snorting poisonous RC's.
Anything that shulgin hasn't taken himself, I am yet to trust.
