Ok this is my first post on Totse, I'm your average nooby beginner and I expect to be flamed for being awfully nooby. But i'm going to ask anyway because i'm thirsty for the knowledge :)

Two friends and I are want to celebrate NYE with a bang this year. Now, I have roughly 2kg of Ammonium Nitrate. I got the stuff on Ebay via some cold packs. My first problem, will the extracted powder (which is all crystally) still be able to manipulated into something entertaining? or is it ruined if its been mixed with the water already.

Ok, this is the main focus. Our main goal for this mission is to make it go BOOM. If we can ignite the stuff we'll be very happy chappys. So, we're all rather inexperienced with this stuff but we're quick learners and very resourceful. Please help. How can we blow it up? All comments welcomed, even the criticisms, they are usually funny..

ok, ive read that whole thread. twice. i presume the best way is to make it into ANFO and use AP to make it explode? is this the most simple method?

1) It is, while not as dangerous as it is made out to be, chances of success are slim.
2) Even newbies are perfectly capable of making AP, a lot of people get crap for yield and some even a lungful of nastiness, so getting the stuff toghether shouldn't be that much of a problem.
Thing is, AN based explosives are notoriously difficult to set off.

I suppose it's too late for you to pick up some other chems to make something a little safer/foolproof, still I'd like to encourage you to try and grind up some ammonpulver and experiment with the stuff.

The hygroscopic nature is next to zero when the temperature is too, so now would be the best time of the year to be experimenting with that stuff.
