People place too much value on children. Every time a child is raped or killed, there is a national sensation. Children are no more important that adults, the elderly or the disabled. The fact that they are "helpless" changes nothing, anyone who gets raped or murdered is helpless. Mortality is not prejudiced.

I'm so glad I never had a sheltered childhood or parents that were concerned for my safety. I'm glad I was allowed to play with knives and go out after hours.
