| Better Living Through Chemistry Discussions of any and all sorts of mind-warping chemicals, pills, booze, mind machines, trippy stuff, current street prices, importing pharmaceuticals, smart drugs, nutrients, herbs, and altered states. Spirituality/Life changing
I've been reading some trip reports, and I've noticed that the author more frequently than not will refer to the trip as "spiritual" or "life changing". I find this hard to believe, being the man of science I am.
mainly I just think that spirituality is a bullshit hippie alternative for introspection, and I find it hard to believe that people have genuine life changing experiences while they have psychoactive chemicals surging through their bodies. When ever I trip on whatever it may be its usually more like "wow this is fucking awesome I love that my brain is capable of this".
does anyone else agree? and for those who disagree drop some epitomes on me.

i may find inspiration and motivation in the state of mind i find myself in but it never stays. i always return to my normal self. not to say i'm not motivated sober.

Re: Spirituality/Life changing
Hmm... spiritual things? Definitely bullshit.
Life changing? That may have some validity. LSD made me a much, much more happy, carefree person. It made me realize my own insignificance, which is something very important to learn in life. You are worthless, unimportant, and miniscule--enjoy the anonymity of life and do what you want.
I think it's really liberating to know how meaningless and random your life is. It provides a sense of appreciation for one's life much deeper than any religion can.

Re: Spirituality/Life changing
about one in 500 million will even know what the word "spiritual" means
since I'm fond of quoting Nietzsche, "the spirit is a stomach"
and
"now that I know the body, spirit for me is only quasi-spirit"
think on it
spirit isn't half as spiritual as it seems

Re: Spirituality/Life changing
I think it is important to have a basic understanding of what causes 'spiritual' experience on a biological level, before one can make the claim that they have had said experience.
You can still be very spiritual as long as you accept the biological nature of spirituality and not some 'divine' explanation.
I would say the strongest spiritual experience I've had was on Ketamine, and the only time hallucinogens have been as spiritual were when I attained strong levels of ego death. Thus my theory holds that NMDA receptor antagonism is partly, if not wholly responsible for the majority of religious experience. This theory is backed by evidence within the book entitled Why God Won't Go Away.
Technically, drugs are a better way of being more spiritual, and I always wondered why modern religions so fervently deny the importance of hallucinogens.

no no no, the two are completely compatible, the divine nature inside of us gave birth to our earthly and biological nature
beyond the chemical is the purely energetic

science is largely faith based. a lot of people seem to over look this fact for whatever reason. furthermore, it isn't surprising that someone as closed minded as you debunks religion/spirituality as nonsense. spirituality is a metaphysical thing, just like your mind. science is a system of describing the physical realm. science cannot describe your mind yet you take it's existence to be true- you can see where problems might arise. each side, religion and science, that is, is the extreme opposite of the other-regardless of the parallels in their systems and they will continue to clash until eventually, imho anyway, they merge. they're both systems that attempt to establish truth. it's easy to talk shit about spirituality, especially in our culture and with the main stream religions so skewed. but i suggest you study religion, science, philosophy, and where ever else we get our truths and formulate a worthy opinion. saying it is stupid, with no formal education in the sciences or religion, is stupid. the trypitamine derivatives have definitely influenced this thought, but they were by no means the only influence.

i really don't think it's important at all, since, well they can't understand exactly how spiritual experiences go down in your brain. they have an idea of how it might go down, but they basically have a very vague idea of how everything goes down.

Psychology, psycho physiology, philosophy of the mind, science of the soul, metaphysics, Vedic spirituality, the gostic teachings of jesus < just a few "vague" ideas about how everything goes down.
Just because you dont know jack shit about your mind doesnt mean others dont.
p.s. dont be tricked into wanting "objective/physical" evidence. The mind is subtle and untangable hence cannot be tangably measured but it can me observed through its subjective qualities.

spirituality isn't an idea of how things go down. and as far as i'm concerned, any way you seek truth you're going to get a very vague idea of what is actually up. imo this is because we just aren't meant to know

Re: Spirituality/Life changing
i think it's possible to discover the purpose of life, but so far evolution hasn't endowed us with any tool to see reality clearly. i mean we can only perceive 1/1,000,000 of true reality so we are totally oblivious to what's really going on, even though we like to pretend what we can observe is all that is.
our perception is our biggest deception and shortcoming. we just need to keep developing super computers and new scientific interfaces to aid us in our quest for understanding.

The purpose of life is very clear and easy. As a free thinking individual, the purpose is to do what ever the fuck you want. The fact that there is a society that frowns on this may seem restricting, but in reality there really is nothing stopping you from doing anything and everything (humanly possible).
or you could think about it in very literal terms, be birthed, age, stay alive, procreate, raise the offspring, age more, die.
It's the meaning of life that's difficult to define.

nor should there be. descrates once said the best system of governing the people is one with as few laws as possible that enforces them as strictly as it can. the government isn't anything more than just a bunch of people, no different from yourself in every way except for their illusion of power, that tells us what to do.

or maybe we CAN do whatever the "fuck" we want
and there is no such thing as free thought
who do you think is even thinking?
why does life have to have a purpose? that would make it far too rational

Re: Spirituality/Life changing
the human brain is a product of nature. the human brain is rational. according to descartes' meditations, i think the 3'd specifically, order does not stem for disorder. even the physical concept of entropy has it's MAJOR flaws.

nature is a product of the human brain
the rational only exists as a blip in time of the irrational
order is from disorder,
disorder from order
flaws make perfection, perfection is never perfect without flaws

thank you. our brain sums up our incomprehensible environment with something it can easily grasp and understand.
