Is making a galvanized steel screen for bong harmful?
I recently made a nice little water bottle bong :). Now, I already know that copper is harmful to make a screen because it releases toxins when heated, but would it be safe to make a galvanized steel screen? I just want to make sure I don't get hurt from this. Thanks.

Re: Is making a galvanized steel screen for bong harmful?
I'm not sure about what a lighter would do...but I'm an experienced welder, and we were taught not to weld galvanized steel indoors as it puts off a vapor that can make you sick. I wouldn't chance it if I were you.
edit: looked it up, the zinc coating will melt around 900f, I'm not sure what temperature a lighter burns at exactly but that's a bit too close for comfort.

i've found that the only thing thats Really safe to smoke through is glass.
not paper, not blunts, not metal..
i mean, it all gets you high, but glass is just straight pot, nothing else

Ah, damn. It says the average Bic lighter burns at 1977 F. Thanks.

This. Seriously, they're like fifty cents for 20 of them. I usually just get them for free when I go a head head shop. All you have to do is ask and the worst they can say is no.
Or you could buy a glass screen for fifty cents as well.

Why do you assume everyone here is over 18?

Then take a screen off of one of your sinks in your house. Especially in the bathroom, no one will notice.
Or go to a hardware store. Or find someone who's 18. Or go into a head shop and buy screens and probably not get carded.
Be creative!

there are other suitable screens... find a sink somewhere other than your house, like a gas station or hell your school... unscrew the faucet thing where the water comes out, remove the screen and keep it, put the metal bit back on the sink...
wash it with alcohol to remove any build up, and burn off anything on it....
Even if your not 18, most people know someone that is 18 that would be happy to help... if a friend of mine asked me to pick up a pack of screens the next time i go by the head shop, i would buy some for them...

Why do you assume that all headshops ID for screens? I've never been carded for trying to buy screens, even when the place asked for ID to buy basically anything else, i.e. papers, blunts, bongs, pipes, etc.
Maybe it's just because I'm in Canada.
