I want to be a single parent someday.
I want to have just one son.
I would be the coolest father ever.
I would be the kind of father who would take his boy to get Dairy Queen if he knocked out a kid who was picking on him in school, but I would also tell him that violence is not the best way to solve every problem.
I would be the dad who would probably wouldn't even send his son to school, instead homeschooling him and letting him spend a lot of time with friends.
I would be the dad who finds out his son is smoking weed one random Friday night, finds his stash, takes it, then wait for him to wake up the next morning. I'd give him the cliche talk about marijuana and tell him to avoid getting into other stuff, then I'd get his stash as well as mine and roll a joint for us to share.
I would be the dad who would do anything and everything to make sure his son succeeds more than I could, without trying to live vicariously through him.
I'd be the father who has a son growing up around all the best music.
I'd be the father who would have brought a quality person into the world that I was unable to succeed in.
What is S&A's thoughts on what kind of single parent they'd be?

So are going to be the type of single father who rewards bad behaviour, doesn't value education, gives his child drugs, hangs off of him, imposes his shitty musical taste on him and believes that, after all this negative reinforcement, truancy, drug smoking and bad taste his son isn't going to grow up to be the drop kick his father is?
Way to fit the single parent stereotype dude.

I'd reward him for standing up for himself and make it clear that there are also other alternatives, teach him myself because the education system is shit, allow him to smoke a harmless plant. I have too much pride to leech like that. I doubt Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix count as shitty music.
PS: I know you're a troll.

Re: I want to be a single parent someday.
How cool that does sound and your kid would see you as the perfect father, but that's just not the right way to raise a child.
I can picture it now, in 5th grade he gets into fights. His parents tell him "bla bla bla fighting is bad but that was one awesome punch junior!", he figures out you have no control over him. In 8th grade he starts smoking weed...you reward him with a fat blunt showing him its ok...9th grade rolls along he gets into a few more fights, gets his girlfriend pregnant. He starts doing cocaine and other hard drugs. He gets arrested a few times, Then hes drunk one night driving some friends home and their going 75mph and crash head on with a mini van, everyone dies. Your son, his friends, the woman driving the mini van and her baby.
How do you feel now? Because that's how it will end up. Don't give me some bullshit on how you will teach him to be safe. On kid's that doesn't work and he WILL get out of control.

Why would he opt for the alternatives when it is so easy and rewarding to simply fight? Education system is shit? Please. Like you could do anywhere near as good. Perhaps you might be able to teach him to read and some basic math but what happens when he gets older? You can't provide a thorough education (if any) at upper high school level. You would have to be unemployed as well so as to have the whole day open to teach and make lesson plans. Your son will also suffer from limited social skills from not attending school. Yes, weed may be harmless though I've never seen a healthy family situation where weed is openly smoked. What if - just a small what if - he has an underlying mental illness that is catalysed by smoking cannabis - cannabis that you gave him?
PS: Not here and not now.

You'd be the dad of a friendless kid. Homeschooled kids are notoriously socially awkward and lonely.

You'd be the dad of a future druggie. I totally agree, weed really is not bad. And every parent knows this too. But they tell you it is anyway, so that weed is your basis for a bad thing, and that you'll (hopefully) never do harder drugs. They know kids are gonna push the boundaries, so if you start the boundaries at "weed is bad, don't do it", they'll hopefully try weed and stop at that. But if they've already been told that weed is ok, pushing the boundaries will mean harder drugs.

Remember how, when you were younger, your parents thought they knew what cool music is? And they were totally wrong? Yeah, but that wouldn't be the case for you. You'd actually know what cool music is.

A shitty one right now at least. You're a good example of why teenagers shouldn't have kids, "I'm gonna be the coolest dad ever!!"

True that. I've had these same thoughts too. The thing is, once you actually have a kid and begin to raise him, all these "ideas" go out the window. What happens if your kid grows up to be totally straight-laced and takes no interest in drugs at all? Or what if he turns out to be into rap music? The only way to be "the coolest dad ever" is to take the challenges of raising a child one day at a time while making sure they are totally comfortable around you. If your kid grows up knowing his dad as a laid-back pot-smoker who listens to Hendrix all the time, he's not going to think you're cool, he'll just be used to how you are. Also, about the single parent thing: sounds great in practice, but everyone always underestimates the value of a mother's presence. A kid without a mother never learns how to act around girls. Have fun with a kid so afraid of women he becomes gay.
