CO2(s) + Vodka = dissolution + sublimination?
So I heard that this was true in and off topic thing in another thread here.....Would someone care to explain to me how one dissolves the other and the vaporization process of ethanol works?
The chemistry I know seems to steer against this, Like dissolves like , ethanol has a boiling temp of 78 so how would adding something colder than RT make it vaporize?
Just looking for answers :D

Re: CO2(s) + Vodka = dissolution + sublimination?
k, apparently, the rapid sublimation of the co2 releases a gaseous mixture of aerosolized ethanol with the sublimated co2
that disperses the alcohol into the co2, and... well, you can breath it like AWOL. just in a ghetto way using co2 instead of o2.

Re: CO2(s) + Vodka = dissolution + sublimination?
wouldn't that be sort of harmful?
like health effects?
Is this safe to try?

Re: CO2(s) + Vodka = dissolution + sublimination?
it wouldn't be more harmful than AWOL, assuming you're not breathing it straight and mixing with air...
here's a vid...
http://www.5min.com/Video/Inhaling---smoking-alcohol-1169789
that explains how it works, because of polar/nonpolar hydrophobic interactions.

I recently did a lab of this sort actually dissolving cyclohexane in ethanol. The interesting part is how it makes a vapor mixture. very interesting.
Thanks penguin ^^
So i guess it doesn't need to raise the temperature of the alcohol, it jsut has to provide that extreme temperature differential, the CO2 basically tears it out of the solutuion lol
