| Better Living Through Chemistry Discussions of any and all sorts of mind-warping chemicals, pills, booze, mind machines, trippy stuff, current street prices, importing pharmaceuticals, smart drugs, nutrients, herbs, and altered states. Please try to keep your conversations "theoretical" in nature, since this is an open conference. |

Well, the majority of people in this forum aren't chemists, they're lazy stoners.
I know it's called "Better living through CHEMISTRY", but it has much more to do with "How can I get high off of***" than anything chemistry related.
Lab Tips\Mad Scientist would be the right forum, but they probably don't want it over there, haha...

Yes. Everybody would. Give them some dry ice along with it, and teach them how to sublimate the alcohol out.
(small chunk of dry ice + a few shots worth of vodka in a plastic bottle. tighten cap, sit for a minute, untighten, breathe vapors deeply. Lather rinse repeat.)
They'll like that, alot. :D
It's chemistry AND alcohol. Everybody wins.

I really want to try this now.
so the alcohol is in vopor form, how does that go down?
I don't understand this as I thought ehanol boil at 76 degrees, wouldn't the dry Ice cool it below this (if not cold enough already!)?
basically IMO the CO2 is subliminating , and you inhale C02 vapour

Right, but the alcohol dissolves the CO2, so when the CO2 sublimates out, it takes the alcohol with it.
There is still some alcohol left in the liquid, but it's MUCh weaker than it originally was. Plus, there's nothing wrong with drinking CO2, so after you breathe the gas you can just kill the shot like normal.

Re: 10$-20$ present for a Chemistry Research group potluck
So alchohol ( a polar substance) will dissolve CO2 (non polar) you are telling me?
I am not brilliant at chemistry but i always thought like dissolved like..
I am bringing dry Ice home tonight from my labto try this.
Unless they are only miscible in a certain temperature range, (UCST, LCST?)

1. Buy a quarter.
2. Bring a bong.
3. Commence the "pyrolysis filtration".
4. ????
5. Profit.

No, no. you get DRUNK. You get fucking smashed from this, not a CO2 headrush. It burns your lungs though...:(

Re: 10$-20$ present for a Chemistry Research group potluck
shit man I always wondered if it would be possible to inhale alcohol like ether... and I guess it is...
but you sure you didn't mean the alcohol vapors dissolve in the co2, not the other way around?

They actually do that at some bars, they get the alcohol into a vapor, probably through sublimation, and you can inhale the vapors through a tube, its pretty cool.

says they use machines, not dry ice.
I made a new thread about this would someone care to explain the chemistry of this process to me there?

Well, go research the workings of the machines, see how it is really done. ;)

Re: 10$-20$ present for a Chemistry Research group potluck
I dont know how they work, but i do know that they are called nebulizers. The machines are commonly given to pulmonology patients to be used to deliver medicine directly into their lungs.
If you just put liquor in where the medicine goes it works exactly like they do at those bars.
I got one of the machines (brand name Pulmomate) from my ex who had lung problems. Apparently its out of date, as she has gotten like 3 new ones since she used it, but it still works fine for liquor :)

You know how CO2 (NP) dissolves in water (polar)? Yeah. Same mech.
