Questions about Needle Exchanges and NA meetings
First of all, does anyone know how to do searches for Needle Exchange programs? Normally I can go pick up a 10 pack down the street at my Walgeens for 2.65 a piece but they claimed I was the only one buying 10 packs and they couldn't split up their boxes anymore for me. AKA they decided to stop selling small amounts to a junky because they are assholes.
At the moment I am jobless so don't ask me why I can't fork up $15 for a 100 pack and that's too much damn money for too damn needles. A 10 pack will last me a month or so at least.
I've heard that Walmart does 10 packs, and even does 1 packs for like 10 cents. Is this true and if so how sure
are you that it's a nation wide deal? As in not exclusive to your area/walmart.
Second part of this message is NA meetings (narcotics anon). What do you think about them? Have you been to one home group or a bunch? I got fired from my job like 4-5 months ago because someone saw me throw a bag away, retrieved it and found my rigs and an old spoon and stuff, called my boss who in turn called the police. Judge didn't believe me that I was throwing them away, gave me 60 hours comm service, 10 hours of ADEP and weekyl NA meetings for a year.
At first I was sort of bumming the meetings but I have found things in the meetings I apprecate. For one, hugging all the good looking chicks is pretty cool and hugging the older ladies gives me that warm tingly feeling like giving your ma a hug.
There is some corny shit of course too, like how everything repeats things at the same time when reading the general message or when thanking someone for sharing. A bit too cult like for me at times.
I am the type who in my mind I don't need rehab or methadone or anything to quit opiates. If I am going to quit it has to be on my own. The NA meetings have given me a better grasp on what it truly takes it quit and the mentality you adopt to aid your efforts (one day at a time, one minute, one second, one hour, one day at a time you can't look at it any other way).
Overall I'd say the meetings are pretty corny and fun to get nodded the fuck out prior to going. I've met a couple of cool dudes and a few real cool chicks and these are the closest thing I've got to a sober support system. My only friends are either worse into addiction than I am or on the other side of the field serving the shit.. which makes it fuckin impossible to avoid unless I want to stay at home all day every day.
The only things I can say I truly took away from NA is a less stigma oriented perspective of my problem. Yeah, it is my fault for getting to this point but at the same time I have a disease that doesn't make it any easier for me and my willpower. I feel like I am no longer demonized when connotated with the Addict now. Secondly, it has prompted me to begin cutting doses down. I try to only IV twice a day and my limit is three times. Lastly it taught me I surround myself with some pretty shitty people, I was in shock with how much these people cared about me, how much they wanted to see me succeed when they don't even know me. The compassion in their hugs, despite how fruity I find it hugging guy after guy after guy (i try and sit near the young honeys). Without NA i think I wouldn't be nearly as mentally progressed as I am.
Too Long Didn't Read-
1. How do I find Needle Exchanges near the St. Louis county area?
2. Have you been to an NA meeting? Have you visited more than one homegroup/format? What did you like and dislike about it? Do you feel it helped you? Do you continue to go on a somewhat regular basis?
Thanks neezes get at me

Re: Questions about Needle Exchanges and NA meetings
i dont understand why? if it was that simple i would have quit before i even started but the shit has its hold on me and i can't get out just yet. it's an every day struggle and i am a piece of shit because of it. i wake up everyday sick, get on craigslist and try to sell another one of my possessions for chump change simply so i can get the cash fast and start making moves. the only things i really have left, and the only things i refuse to sell are my American highway one strat ($700 guitar) and my 120watt line 6 amp ($450 amp), i could NEVER sell those. i have stolen all kinds of shit from my parents (blank checks, credit cards, rare items for cash). i am the definition of someone who had a chance and blew it by becoming a drug addict.
you were wanting my little story about the toll heroin has taken on me a little while ago so i figured i'd keep you updated, i am like 3 pages into typing it, it's about 8 pages long.

Re: Questions about Needle Exchanges and NA meetings
1. I know nothing about needle exchanges. Try going to a different pharmacy to buy needles? I know CVS will sell them to you, it's in their policy according to what a girl there told me.
2. I hate NA personally. It claims not to be religious although there are two prayers during the course of the meeting usually, and most of the members talk about God all the damn time. Some of the stories and discussions there really did get to me though, and they dug deep and stick with me to this day. I think if NA was just a support group and wasn't pushing the 12-step and 'spirituality' it would be a great tool for those who need help but don't like the format. Sometimes all you need to stay clean is somebody to talk to or somewhere to be though, so it's good for that.
I'm thinking of going to more local ones instead of the ones in Orlando with all the crazy people.
Also, I would've been in jail already if I were you for beating the living fuck out of whoever narced you out like that. That is straight up bullshit, I don't think it's even legal to fire somebody for being a drug user unless it interferes with their work or causes a problem at work (intoxication on the job). Holy shit, that makes me mad for you.

Re: Questions about Needle Exchanges and NA meetings
Turn that 8 page story into a 200 page book and make enough money to buy gazzilions of needles.

Well, America is the place for second chances, maybe even thirds and fourths and fiths and yeah you get the point. You just have to realize when your making your life a living hell and either shoot yourself or DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Re: Questions about Needle Exchanges and NA meetings
1. Google search?
2. I think the better option would be to find a non-profit organization that does not align itself with the "twelve step program" or religious groups. There are usually several within any reasonably populated city. I know for a fact there is one within a fifteen minute bus ride from me, with an upstate residency if necessary. Find a program that you are most comfortable with that you are most likely going to succeed in.
