Default I'm worried about my friend

So this guy has always been the "shy" type. He's a cool dude but he never really says or does what he wants in fear of what people may think.

For the last few months he has been smoking pot, and then only about a month ago tried ecstasy. Ever since that night it's like he has changed, not in a bad way either. It's like the effects of ecstasy (not giving a fuck) has stuck with him, and it's good because he is a much happier, care free person now.

He did it every weekend for about 3 weekends in a row but he didn't do it this weekend. He's been telling me he's starting to feel like he used to, nervous and shy and whatnot. He told me that he thinks he needs to take it regularly to kill off his shy ways, which sounds pretty ridiculous, but it did make a fair bit of sense to me.

I told him he needs to stop being an idiot because he will end up getting addicted, but it seems like his social status and new found care free attitude is more important to him.

Does his theory on ecstasy making him a care free person for a week until it wears off sound like it could be true? Or is it all in his head?

ecstacy is a pill, but its not a medication. and its definitly not something to fuck with every weekend of your life just to be outgoing.

What it sounds like, is like he's falling into an addiction.

You need to tell him to cut that shit out...

This. And how the hell does he even know that it's really MDMA he is taking? He could just be eating meth.

The same thing happened to me, to a lesser extent, when I abused amphetamines for the first time. I am decently smart, and the amps really seemed to bring out the "hiding" intelligence I had. This is actually true, not just an illusion. So the next day I felt like there was a device in my brain, working the way a governor on a go-kart keeps kiddies from crashing.

Now I am prescribed Adderal, and it helps a ton with school. I abuse it pretty rarely, because I have a very choosy addictive personality, I'm fine with some substances, but with others I fiend it up. Also, I now realize that my "governed" intelligence isn't just freed by drugs, but also a good sleep cycle, and diet etc.

Every problem you face is in your head, know your brain, and you can take control.

Ya you need to tell him to stop.

I did it every weekend for 6 weekends going from 3 pills the first time then 4 then 5 for 4 weeks.

I could feel myself getting dumber and dumber.

i had terrible withdrawls.

So what? He's smoked some weed for a few months and now he's done E three weeks in a row. He's definitely not in trouble yet. Give him a few more weeks of E and he'll probably slow down on his own.

hes his own man, at the end of the day despite your efforts hell do as he pleases.

once a week MDMA isn't a bad habit at all, gives your brain plenty of recovery time between doses. and yes it is a therapudic drug, it was used initially to help cancer patients become okay with their mortality. if anything kudos to him for using it to better his flaws rather than to listen to fucking techno and give his dude bros backrubs in the blacklight and do vicks tricks on one another.

you should offer him an alternative to what you find is a problem if you are so concerned. whatever you do, don't give him alcohol or benzos, from how you described him that is the kind of drug he would become an instant slave to due to his problems.

I laughed so fucking hard at this.

but honestly, the first thing that came to my mind is, the MDMA helped him out, but he's feeling a little etarded from using it so often.

I would tell him he's not addicted, and that the MDMA will help him as long as he gives his body and mind more time to recover. It's a double edged sword.

4 times a year, tops. If shulgin says so, I'm gonna stick to it.

It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one here who feels that way about the whole "rave scene".

I ain't knocking MDMA as a drug, really, but rather the whole fucking "KandyKid PLUR" thing that some people get going on...

Doing MDMA every week fries your brain too much after a while (and I'm always up for a bit of brain-frying). :p MD is an over-powerful drug. I used to go out and do it every week, and for a while I thought "this is great", but after a while I noticed some pretty extreme changes in my emotions and thinking power. It stopped me from being able to enjoy anything else for a while, because everything else just pales in comparison to that hard chemical buzz. I turned into a vegetable (an angry one) that lived only for Fridays.

But give him time and I'm sure he'll figure this out for himself... And if he comes out of his shell a bit while he's doing it then all the better. :p I don't personally know of anyone who's become addicted to mdma.

XTC fuks your brain up really bad. Tell him to stick to his greens(weed) if he like's to get high. A friend of mine does xtc weekly and he don't give a fuck about anything any more. He smokes cigarettes and he is trying to quit but he can't because he's so fuckin stupid from all that xtc.

Tell him to see a shrink. For his type of problems prescription medication would probably be more effective with fewer side effects.
