Voter for marijuana on obama's web site change
http://change.gov/page/content/openforquestions
The poll ends tonight. He will answer the top questions. At the moment, the question is ranked at number 4. make it number one.
An effort being led by members of Shroomery, Dailykos, Grasscity, Marijuana.com, and other notable websites is currently under way to push for a marijuana related issue to reach the top of Obama's new Web 2.0 policy website. On this website, users can ask questions, and the top questions will likely get answered by Obama and his staff. Up to this point, there has been very little organized involvement on issues on Obama's new site. However, marijuana activists are some of the first ones to make a strong push to get their voices heard. This Marijuana related question went from 200 votes to 1600 and went from question #240 to question #11 in just a day. With more activism, this issue can be front and center on Obama's official website, change.org.
To be a PART of this news, I urge all of you to do the following:
1) Go to http://change.gov/page/content/openforquestions and register. It is very easy, you don't even need to check your email to verify.
2) Now go to the page two (or, if by the time you read this, if it is on the front page, page 1) and vote this question up:
"Will you consider legalizing marijuana so that the government can regulate it, tax it, put age limits on it, and create millions of new jobs and create a billion dollar industry right here in the U.S.?"
3) Watch as it climbs to the front page, and wait for Obama's answers.
4) Post on ALL other marijuana forums and email it to friends who care about this issue.
Enjoy watching Obama answer this question and feel good about your political involvement.
Post this everywhere!!!!

Yeah, this is a good idea but PLEASE, don't vote down other questions just because you want to boost the ranking of your favorite one. I voted for that question too, by the way.

vote this one up as well...

Thats how it is in San Francisco. People smoke pot on the steps of city hall all the time, especially on parade/party days.

Re: Voter for marijuana on obama's web site change
Anyone that sees us that way does not matter, their opinions do not matter. It was a legitimate question, people are going to have to stop being afraid to talk about it cause of how they'll look. The message has gone through, Obama understands how we feel already. He made that clear years ago and he agrees. But he may flip flop on the issue because it's so controversial and so many people have money against legalization. It's so taboo.
Either way, the message is through that the people want it to be legal. The people that read his site are the people that got him elected. If there's any point to these questions then he'll listen to the people about marijuana. Why does any of the other shit matter if the people can't have a simple freedom of owning a harmless medicinal plant? We have no say in any of these other matters if they won't even let us use a medicinal plant that's been proven many times to be harmless. So our opinions on any of these other issues wouldn't matter.
It's not about being a stoner and getting high, it's about freedom. The freedom to do it for the various reasons and benefits of doing it. The positive effects far outweigh the negatives and the politicians know this. People are constantly being abused, killed and locked up for using a medicinal herb. It's gotta stop eventually.

No, the statistics clearly disagree with that proposition.
Sure, weed shouldn't be a very high priority. But on the other hand, it has the potential to do wonders to a struggling economy.

On a related topic, do you guys think if the US were to legalize it, that Canada would follow soon after?

Yeah, what Theta said. I expect every industrialized nation to legalize cannabis before the U.S. does. We're typically pretty far behind on the whole liberalism curve.

Re: Voter for marijuana on obama's web site change
Since when did the president lead in favour of the people? Last I heard the president leads in favour of the corporations/investors who got him the money to be in office. If Obama does legalize, he'll have to get a new investor base for 2012, or he won't be re-elected. If he legalizes, massive amounts of money will go to his opponents which will "buy" him votes. This is why democracy sucks. We need an actual leader, like Adolf Hitler, who prioritized the people ahead of the investors.

did you know that 9/10 presidential victors outspent their opponents? including obama...
It will be great if obama lives up to his promises, but until he does, there's no reason to believe that he will be any different...
also obama said that even federally legalizing medical marijuana was one of his last priorities. he did, however, say that he was for trying to stop the arrests and busts of medical marijuana patients, vendors, and growers. just that most likely he wasn't going to get to it while he was in office.
also he said he wasn't for completely legalizing it, but he was going to 'rethink' the war on drugs.

That would be the first and most logical step though. You can't just change such a policy to the direct opposite overnight, it has to be done gradually. Hopefully anti-drug budgets will be cut, and freevibe will go out of business.

Eh ... the European youth does, the older folk not so much. Times are a changing though, the pot debate is sparking up with the Netherlands second guessing their policies of tolerance, while another major allowed a farmer to grow legal pot in order to cripple the criminal production.

Re: Voter for marijuana on obama's web site change
Don't expect much. I'm only looking at an end to DEA raids on medical cannabis stores. I don't care about full legalization. If they legalized it though, the obsession with cannabis would only grow, and there would probably be companies that have custom breeding and genetic modification. I read an article from 04 that said 3/4 of the US supports the war on drugs.
Anyway it's best if this voting gets attention from the mainstream media. I never expected much from Obama since he's mainstream and I've known that the whole time.
reason.tv has some good drug related videos.

I thought he was just going to answer it:
"No"
Which was a couple of words less than what was actually said.
But, decriminalization is nice, but it won't eliminate the one thing that makes marijuana bad. The fact that it is illegal, and criminal operations run the marijuana business.
If he manages to decriminalize it, then he better pardon every person in jail for marijuana.
