My upbringing? Sorry. I grew up poor as fuck, sometimes homeless, and I knew god damn well that there was a better life. Don't try and tell me that those people think that's as good as it gets.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying all people have to come to terms with life and what they've got. Thus, life is life. Everyone here seems to be stereotyping all Africans as spear chucking inbreds but that's not the case at all. Yeah, life isn't great in places like Darfur and Syria, but those are the only places that make it to your cozy livingroom's television set. A lot of African countries are very developed and most of the people are more or less happy, just the same as most people in Western/European/Asian countries or more or less happy.

Cars, cities, ipods, computers, etc don't make people happy. To these stereotyped Africans, they've never experienced them and thus aren't missing out on anything. Life is made up of needs. Yeah, you need food, clean water and shelter - all of which are covered in most African regions through specialized means of obtaining it. Throw a Westerner in the African plains or jungles and they couldn't survive, but these people are adapted to it through experiences and thus have no need for computers and ipods. Instead of playing video games, African kids [and kids in most underdeveloped countries for that matter] actually play outdoors, get involved with their community's and play many types of sports with their friends. Dare I say they actually live a healthier lifestyle. That guy that won the Olympic men's 100m sprint got so fast by playing outside with his friends all the time and eating healthy, natural foods instead of driving in cars, playing on computers and sitting in office buildings.

Who's better off? It all depends on one's subjective viewpoint. Most African's are contempt with their way of life. Why? Because it works and gets them by. It's incredibly arrogant to assume they envy every part of our daily lives.
