comparison involving alcohol...
I keep hearing that americans get wasted really easily. So just out of interest, i wana know if its true.
so, what is the alcohol volume of an average beer in america. Here being about 4.5%
and how many pints does it take to get you wasted? For me and the people i know, about 15 for being completely wasted, and about 10ish for being relatively drunk.

Re: comparison involving alcohol...
Not american, but the beer in my hand is 4.9%. I'll probably drink 12-15 and be fairly drunk. But I'm small and haven't eaten much all day. Usually it'd take a few more.

Budweiser is 4.3% abv.
It takes about 3 to get me stimbling about and giggling. If I' drinking to get wasted i go for hard alcohols.
Then again I'm 17 and don't drink often.
EDIT:I am an american.

Re: comparison involving alcohol...
If I drink a box of 12 5.2% 335mL beers I'll be quite drunk.
Not completely gone, but I'd be describing myself as drunk.
At a bar, pints are what? About 500mL and they're usually 4.0%.. Usually after about 7 of them I'd be laughing and loud, and after 10 I'd be wasted.
I'm not American either, New Zealand, eighteen, very occassional drinker

Re: comparison involving alcohol...
It takes me about 15-18 bud lights to get drunk but my stomach isn't big enough to handle anymore than that. I'f I'm trying to get belligerent I'll drink a liter of vodka over a long night. I'm about 6'1 180lb right now and I know some 5'1 110lb girls that can face a liter of vodka in a night.
Obviously can drink way more if I'm tripping on acid, sniffing coke, or taking dexamphetamine.

Re: comparison involving alcohol...
We have all sorts of beer in America... I've seen from 3.5% to 12.9%, and I'd say something like 4.5%-6% is fairly normal. I don't like beer, but when I drink I drink 80 proof vodka, and it usually takes about 8 1.5 ounce shots to get me 'drunk', and then I usually just keep drinking until I pass out. I'm not really a very responsible drinker, lol. I could see your question making sense if you were asking about just about any other country where most people share similar genetics, but America is supposed to be a 'melting pot' as it were, and there are people with ancestry from all over the world living here, so I don't think the question that you're asking has the sort of answer that you're looking for...

Re: comparison involving alcohol...
Realistically, if you drink a lot and very often, the higher your tolerance and the longer it takes you to get smashed.
So based on this....wouldn't this be a basic indication of the average person's drinking capabilities? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer_consumption_by_country)

Re: comparison involving alcohol...
I have a huge tolerance to most substances [except for caffeine, which I am extremely sensitive to for some reason. 1 cup of strong coffee makes me all jittery and anxious. Go figure]. When I go to the bar I order 7-7's, double strength and it takes about 4 of them to get a buzz going.
When I am drinking at home I'll usually get a fifth of what ever I am drinking - usually cheap vodka or Seagram's 7 - and I'll finish the bottle and that'll leave me pretty drunk. But not fall down, slurring my words and such, drunk.
And this is on top of the morphine I take. If not for that I'm sure I could drink a lot more than I do anyhow. I don't drink that often these days though [past month being an exception]. Probably good for my liver that I don't. I already came close to dying from frying my liver twice now, I don't need anymore close calls.
