When I go out I wear a warm sweater, boots, gloves, scarf, and a winter jacket. What do the rest of you do?

My cold weather gear consists of a hooded coat or sweater and jeans. I don't really need anything else. If my hands get cold, I just stick them in my pockets. Thats what they're there for.

Usually decentish boots, a bodywarmer, gloves and a scarf are my winter attire but most of the time I can't seem to get warm even inside (particulary to the place I go out to the most) so i end up restricted to a sofa wrapped in a sleeping bag, or glued to an electric heater just so I can bare it.

Wanted these proper cold-proof boots that were apparently still comfy in like, -40 but I couldn't get them

I FINALLY have a winter jacket, so I'm fine now.

Before I wore:
Wool socks
Doc Martens
Long Johns
Pants
Regular shirt
Thermal-ish shirt
Hoodie
Denim vest
Bandanna
Knit hat

Now I wear pretty much the same thing, minus the thermal shirt and the vest, and just wear a jacket over my hoodie.

I live in Nor Cal. We just get fog. Fog sucks. It's very dense. Nights dip down sometimes in the upper 20s just below freezing. IN California we don't acclimate to the weather because it hardly ever changes much. The San Francisco Bay Area is the best place to live. The weather is almost always a constant 65-75 degrees f. Except the coastal cities like San Francisco itself which can drop in temperatures of nearly 40 degrees in a matter of minutes thanks to the fog. But places like Oakland the weather hardly ever changes. So the answer is Move to the Bay Area (Like everyone else in the world is doing) or Move to Texas or Florida. that's your only hope with dealing with the cold weather.

Default with the cold?

this thread reminds me that i got a question to ask people for help, espeiciall canadians

how do you keep your shoes from getting wet? where i live, there's snow and half-melted snow and water everywhere i walk, there's no avoiding them. i keep stepping into icy water and now both my shoes (which in fact, are my only two pairs of shoes, that's all i have) are wet.

I never used to have this problem in Vancouver...what should I do, help please, thanks...

get my buddy to drive me places at night, staying at home during teh day cept to venture to the store in cold weather. I don't bitch like a lil girl either. Last year I was doing fencing (big open fields and prairie suburb places) in alberta in sub -30 temp some days and jackhammering holes and whatnot. Frequently the cement trucks would freeze and then we'd get to drive somewhere else in the warm truck.

point is, unless you live in siberia, you have no reason to complain. Its all relative and if you're a whiney bitch you're gonna feel the cold

also, black ppl are more fearful of the cold. I suppose they can't be particularly faulted as their genes are accustomed to the african jungle climate

Same, my hands and feet are like permanent blocks of ice. I can never get them warm enough.

Doesn't help that I'm ridiculously underweight for my height (6 foot and I barely weigh over 8 stone), so I'm a real sucker to cold weather...

Fuck England's weather. Fuck it with a cricket bat...

When it's really cold--say forty below zero--I go out wearing Sorels pack boots, long johns under insulated hunting pants, several layers of undershirts starting with silk, a down jacket, rabbit fur mad bomber hat, and snowmachiner gloves.

When it is fairly mild--around freezing--I dress normally--jeans, sneakers, whatever-- only with an insulated shirt-jacket over my shirt and gloves.

Any word on the cold weather hitting Texas/SoCal making it as far as you?

Me? As it is heading for -30C in a few days. Stay in the house if I can, so I don't have to go outside & snivel like a little frozen-assed bitch.

Not sure. There will be good weather these days; today the max temperature was 27 degrees (Celsius) and the minimum is going to be 15. The following days seem similar, with mildly cloudy skies. So yeah, weather's good here.

Fuck the cold. It is the most miserable experience I have to endure every day (right now). As soon as I step outside everything hurts, everything is uncomfortable, the car takes forever to heat up.

I was talking to a coworker the other day from Colorado, and she said the difference between a "real" cold place and it being cold here (SE US) is that in a real cold place there are things to do in the cold - skate, ski, etc. Here there is nothing to do in the first place, and the cold just makes it worse.

The hot weather on the other hand is awesome. I can go outside in shorts and a t-shirt, sit in a lawn chair, prop my feet up (bare preferably), drink some tea, smoke a cig, everything feels good. Ah the lazy days of summer - sitting around on the porch with friends just chilling in the late evening, the only problem being the god damned bugs. The environment is alive, not a bunch of dead-looking bushes and trees everywhere. No dry itchy skin.

I can not wait. 95F with 95% humidity.

I'm planning on moving away from here for somewhere warmer too. Maybe southern Texas will be warm year round.

Edit: Page 2 bitches!

I wish I could hibernate. Just fall asleep and skip this God awful time of year. But unfortunately we humans have yet to perfect that science, so I must deal with it. When I do go out, I wear a two layer jacket over a hoodie, a pair of jeans, and steel toe boots I've owned for two years. I don't bother wearing gloves or hats unless I'm gonna be out in the cold for more then ten minutes, i.e. shoveling sidewalk, deicing the porch, etc.
