SSRIs and Psychedelics
I'm currently on lexapro, a SSRI for anxiety and I've read that taking LSD, Ayahuasca, or DMT while on SSRIs can be life threatening...However, my doctor said I could drink on them...
So my question is this:
If I am going to trip how long should I lay off my medication if there is a danger?
Think two days before a trip would be enough?

Re: SSRIs and Psychedelics
Hmm.
I can't imagine it doing too much harm TBH. Though, I had a friend who was on SSRIs and no matter how much 2C-e or 2C-i he took he couldn't trip. (Ended up taking 60mg of E and 30mg of I... paid $1 per mg too, I wasn't complaining)
So just keep that in mind.

Generally SSRIs take a long time to stop (and start) working, but I don't have any specific information about Lexapro. I was on Zoloft for a while and it would take weeks after the last dose to be completely finished doing what it did, so 2 days probably isn't long enough. I didn't think LSD caused any serious complications for people on SSRIs though, it just weakens the experience significantly. Ayahuasca preparations contain MAOIs and those don't mix well with SSRIs, but I'm unsure about DMT alone.
By the way, I'm fairly certain that a lot of common recreational drugs like those mentioned above cause serotonin syndrome when you take them while you're on SSRIs because the SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) slows down the recycling process for serotonin while the recreational drugs cause a lot of it to be released at once or otherwise further fuck with it, and when there's too much you get serotonin syndrome. I'm simplifying because I don't understand the neurochemistry well enough to be specific, but I think that's the general idea.
