i want to make a coilgun, but when i google it,i cant find anything that i can fully understand.

so can i get a how to guide for the average person ?

i coil gun i think is a gun using a electro magnet to fire a projectile the guy above me posted the thing about nails but i m not sure if you would have to magnetise the nail first and the gun when you turn the power on would try and pull the nail or bb which i would use towards the middle of the coil once it got there and went past the midde the gun would go holding it back

PROTIP: Don't be like my friend and shoot yourself in the hand with a sharp projectile.

For a starter coilgun, I'd suggest using disposable camera capacitors.

Go to do your local wal-mart or where ever develops pictures, and ask for some cameras that have already been developed. Say it's for a school project or something; I used to get them for free like this.

The capacitors out of there are meant to rapidly discharge, so they're great for coilguns.
