Default Unofficial Beatles Thread

I cant believe there isnt a Beatles thread around here. I would think the Best band in the world would have a thread on &T...guess not. For Discussion...how about, what song is your most favorite by them...or Who is your favorite Beatles member? AND if you dont like those two topic starters then fuck off, and make up your own. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

What is your best cover or mix of a Beatles song?

Probably Jimi Hendrix's cover of Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.

*EDIT* And my favorite song by The Beatles would have to be....Happiness is a warm gun.

The second half of Abbey Road, where all the songs flow together is probably one of the greatest things ever done musically. I love it.

best band ever.

John and Paul are like yin and yang, can't pick. like them for different reasons. i like what john stands for more, and he has better lyrics and is the artist, but paul is just a better musician, and has a better voice. and he's still putting out good stuff.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yHkJ7kUUeA see?

strawberry fields forever is my favorite beatles song, and favorite song of all time.

everything else i can't decide in any order, they're all good.

All things must pass by george is a MUST have album. GENIUS.

Well thanks for being reasonable, bahaha.

But nah, I'm just really really not into them at all. My friends constantly tried to get me to listen to them but to me it just really sounded like a drone, especially Strawberry Fields Forever. Maybe I just never really got into them, but the music is just really bland in my opinion. I like the songwriting a lot though.

Well you must remember that The Beatles played a very wide range of music...from good ol' "rock n roll" to psychedelic rock, but i respect your opinion and if you dont like the beatles thats fine with me.

Favourite song: Twist & Shout
Album: Magical Mystery Tour
Member: Paul or John, couldn't really pick between them.
Cover: probably the one Hendrix did of Day Tripper

EDIT: Just realised when I typed that out that I forgot to take the quote out, I used it so I knew which thread I was replying to.

I totally agree.

I hate these kids that love The Beatles, inparticulair songs like I Am The Walrus and Strawberry Fields Forever, because they're 'drug songs', but in reality they're shit.

You think I Am The Walrus is clever because it's so random and fucked up?
Maybe they were just too fucked up to string a sentence together properly Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

You will notice that the more the Beatles got into drugs, the worse the songs got.

Excuse me, but im fucking 15 and i dont just like the beatles for their drug era music...yes sure, Albums like Magical Mystery Tour, Yellow Submarine, Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band were greatly inspired by drugs yet they are still great albums but i can also enjoy early albums of the beatles such as Please Please Me, A Hard Days Night, etc.

The first part is about a police siren.
The second part is about Lennon sat in his garden.
The third part is random bullshit put together.

Lennon, amused that a teacher was putting so much effort into understanding The Beatles' lyrics, wrote the most confusing lyric he could.

If I didn't know what I was talking about I wouldn't of said anything.

glad someone decided not to do the classic line up from favorite to least favorite (john, paul, george, ringo) Ringo is so underestimated.

Who said they were drug songs? If any song was a drug song, it was Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. I Am The Walrus consisted of random lines written by John and put together for the sole purpose of confusing people. He didn't like how critics and fans were trying to analyze his songs and find a deep meaning in them, so he deliberately wrote a song that made no sense to fuck with them.

And actually, it's the exact opposite. In the beginning, their songs were pretty much all bubblegum pop simple love songs, and then they evolved once they started using drugs and the music became more complex. I do admit that a lot of their songs don't make much sense, but that's the beauty. They could write complete nonsense and still make it sound great. Check out A Day in the Life and Norwegian Wood.

I will do that.
I'm just saying that because their songs wern't as clear and coherent that they arn't as easy to listen to. People bash gabba because it's hard to listen to..

When I said they are drug songs I mean that when kids smoke weed or take acid for the first time they start to bum the Beatles because they were on drugs and wrote songs about/ influenced by drugs. Most of them don't even listen to the Beatles, they just say they do and put it on their MySpace. No interest in the music, just the fact that they did drugs.
It's just like when people go on about Alice in Wonderland, because it's 'trippy' Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

I find it funny how you say Lucy in the Sky is the most likely to be a drug song, the amount of people who say if you play it fast it says 'LSD'.
No it fucking doesn't, it just says 'Lucy in the sky with diamonds' faster.

It would only say LSD when you play it faster if the chorus went - 'Ellllllllll.....essssssss.....deeeeeeee'.
Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

I really don't think you're in any position to judge why people like songs.

Read what I've put above, that is my reasoning. I'm not going to say "you can't listen to the Beatles because I think they're shit", that would be stupid. I'm saying these kids shouldn't lie and say they like the Beatles when they don't really, they just think it's the cool thing to say because they were on drugs, and have just got into drugs themselves.
