Default underage banking

hey totse. or specifically, hey MMM.

im currently 17 but id like to set up a small private bank account that isnt under my parents watch so i can start investing and putting money in through lucrative channels that aren't necessarily in my parents interests. i think i could do a good job of creating a pretty good income, even with the necessary taxations and such. so im a little confused as to where to start?

if it matters i like in the northeastern area of north america.

thanks to all in advance!

I'm not aware of any financial institution that would open up an account to an unemancipated minor without parental consent. Even online banks require faxing of dl and/or social. Maybe I'm just in the dark? Parents steal your money much?

Is there anyone that you trust with your shit who's old enough. You can sign up online in their name or give them your money.

Um, when I was 16 I walked right into B of A myself and opened a checking and savings account with no problem. All you need is a government-issued ID; there is no age requirement AFAIK.

It could vary state-by-state, though.

WTF?! B of A made me get parental consent when I was 16?

Why don't you get parental consent (I can't remember needing consent when I opened my account at 16). If you get consent, that doesn't mean your parents will be monitoring your moves. You can keep the passwords away from them.

Ouch, I'm sorry.

Then again, I walked in with a pay check written out to me, so maybe the manager felt I would be competent in taking care of my own monies.

Try a credit union.

For example, my high school had a branch of
Apple Federal Credit Union in the cafeteria. You could open a checking account there and open a savings account with as little as 5 dollars. Google for credit unions in your area.
