Default Chantix. Anyone ever taken it?

So i went to see my doctor, and lately i have been considering quitting smoking... A pack a day is just getting more expensive than i want to pay for something that is only a fix...

So she told me that there is a fairly new drug on the market that helps block nicotine cravings... Only real drawback she mentioned was some people did experience weird dreams/hallucinations....

Anyone ever tried it and had any success or experience any of the side effects?

idk, chantix is very controversial. side effects have been known to cause suicidal thoughts and severe depression.

google it and read all the stories from people that have used it to quit nicotine addiction.

yea i looked up a little bit of stuff... along with strange behaviors... guy drove himself to alcoholism and then tried to attack his family....

i would consider giving it a shot...

although looking at how it works... if you block off the nicotine receptors, if i smoke a cigarette it shouldn't do jack shit.... might help just thinking "fuck it, its not going to do anything"

and to the guy above, i have quit for a week but it sucked... its not the physical bit that bothers me, i can handle a headache and feeling a bit shitty for a week... It just sucks to crave cigarettes like a starving African child would crave a decent meal....

i smoke when i get up, i smoke before school, i smoke after school, i smoke on the ride home from school, i smoke at home, i smoke on the way to work, i smoke at work, i smoke during break at work, i sit around and smoke after work, on the ride home and at home again.... its a horrible habit, and im getting kind of tired of it...

and now im going to go outside for a smoke...

Just quit.
I wouldn't bother taking drugs to help you get over a drug addiction. It sounds a lot more expensive than just giving them up.

And no matter how weak you think you might be, you can just give them up.

Recently, this teenager in my town flipped out and kidnapped and killed two of his friends, then killed himself. In the paper it says he was recently put on Chantix and his sister said he started acting strange then. I was half ass considering it myself, but after this I think I'll just stick to smokes and only kill myself.

it's all about whether the pros outweigh the cons. seeing as all the freaky shit isn't that common (at least the hardcore stuff), if it could help you quit than that's a plus in my book. now, the real question is, will this affect any other recreational drugs? like change how they feel or anything?

I know a few who have and did not like it. It did not help with the urge, and a few older people I know (over 40) said it makes them constipated and then they feel sick from not shitting...so IDK I would try something else maybe the nicorette gum or something

I wouldnt take it. that is a sugar coat. there are alot of horror stories about that stuff like involving suicides and violence. Chantix is bad news. The problem is the trials were conducted on people who were rather mentally healthy and the ones that were not mentally stable were taken out of the trials and not studied.

Anyone considering medication for smoking cessation should try bupropion first before resorting to Chantix.

Bupropion is definetly a better alternative and it seems it may be atleast a little bit safer.

Much safer, assuming someone isn't a seizure risk or extremely sensitive to stimulant-esque medications. I take it for other reasons (/wrists, lulz) and hardly ever even think about smoking anymore.

Fuck, I saw this thread, and when I started reading it I was gonna suggest that shit like right away. And also, like Piles of Crack also said, as long as you're not at risk for seizure and have a good heart and shit (there's more to it then that, but...) then you should definitely consider that.

I was on bupropion for a while, and before I got put on it, I enjoyed smoking cigarettes and shit, and started smoking more and more, but I just stopped before I got addicted or whatever. But after I was put on bupropion, I could smoke as much as I wanted and didn't have any sort of cravings at all.

Oh yea, and also, my mom takes Clonidine and when she quit smoking like 5 years ago, she didn't have a hard time at all because that medicine is used sometimes for smoking cessation (also for opiate withdrawals I've heard). And she had been smoking since she was like 16 so I'd say think about Clonidine or Bupropion, because from how Chantix sounds, I would NOT risk that shit.

diagnosed epileptic.... but then again i smoked weed while the EEG was hooked up, so that might have caused a misdiagnosis... they told me to go about my usual business and curiosity got to me...

if i ever see that neurologist again im going to ask what time period the seizure activity was taking place... shortly after midnight, i was smoking a bowl...

oh well if i am an epileptic, i know i dont have the convulsing variety... They put me on keppra which i haven't taken in months, shit made me tired and pissed off... kind of counter productive to give someone a medication for seizures because they got into a car wreck that makes an already tired person more tired, dizzy, and pissed off behind the wheel of a car...

need to try and get a new medication that doesn't make me feel shitty and pissed off...

Just from a glance it sounds like a bad idea

I mean, it blocks off the nicotine receptors, as to stop the nicotine from binding to them.

But nicotine isn't the only thing that binds to them, they wouldn't be there if your brain didn't have a purpose for them, which youre now effectively turning off

From what I've heard, and for what it's worth, Chantix will also put a beating on your wallet. Bupropion ain't cheap, either, but it's cheaper, at least.
