Slow, fidgety, not enough ram, the linux that ships with it is awful, the SSD version is really really slow to write to disk, destroying performance, loads of strange drivers and hardware, no bluetooth (wtf???), sound is low.

Other than that A+ 100%

Cons:

Very slow. And as far as I know there is no way to overclock it.

The ram cannot be upgraded past 1.5gig. And it is stuck with a slow clockspeed.

The harddrive spins almost constantly - even tho I have no pagefile/swap. (windows/linux)

Poor battery life.

Very quiet speakers.

The Wireless card has issues with dropouts in windows.

It gets way too hot for my liking.

Pros:

I got it to run crysis.

Enough said?

In theory the Aspire is a lot better than the eee, but the software on the aspire is very be messy, it has a lot of the latest bits of hardware that aren't properly supported, etc.

For instance the fan in the AAO is on constantly by default. Noisy, wasteful, completely unnecessary.

I'd have to strongly disagree with you here.

The EEE 1000 is a much better piece of hardware, running superior software. With the AAO the build and component quality just isn't there. The processor cant even go to its marketed clockspeed!

And I find the fan is really needed, not to cool the processor but the north bridge/video controllers.

Well I'll plain admit you are right there. The processor is excellent, it's the other two chips that haemorrhage heat and energy like crap. But the fan isn't usually necessary though, but I might be biased cos it's winter in Ireland and its fecking freezing right now.

What about if you are just using it for a browser and like a word processor, i mean i have an alienware desktop that i am bringing to college, so i'm looking for something small and simple that i can bring to class if i chose. These people who get these huge laptops for college end up leaving them in their room anyway
