Anyway... For those of you who are married, do you regret it? I'm obviously not asking newlyweds... generally the few older people here.

Marriage isn't pointless. It's better to be in a family unit to bring kids up and it has it's economical advantages.

Old fashioned marriage worked pretty well...as much as anything with us humans can work. Modern style 'life partners' marriage fails across the board.

A spouse is for life, a 'partner' only until a better offer comes along.

Personally I'd like to see the "Adultery Clause" and the "guilty party" judgment brought back in.

For the younger among us , back in the day the only way to get a quick-ish divorce (except for extreme cruelty) was for one spouse to have committed adultery and that spouse got fuck all money.

I'm sick of seeing good husbands getting fucked off for someone else and having all his money and time to see his kids out the fucking window. It's just fucking wrong.

With that in mind, I see present day marriage a farce. A big fucking show where the woman who is nowhere near a virgin wears a big white dress (nice observation AG) and gets to have a special day where everyone looks at her. Then she gets a free holiday somewhere then comes back to a life where she's fucking sorted. She wants someone else? No problems...She can fuck off and take half of the dumbass husband's possessions and doesn't even have to let him see the kids he fathered.

Fuck marriage. Until the justice system takes it's thumb out of it's arse, I will not be participating in such a pointless waste of time. I don't need a piece of paper, a ring and a bunch of photos to prove I'll be honest, faithful, loving and caring to my missus.

jack and psycho: We still have similar laws in Aus. Any one can get a divorce for any reason, but unless you've got a good reason it takes a long time!

How ever, with a good reason (I provided evidence for the judge for my mum and sped things up) you can get a divorce in LESS THAN A WEEK!...and she ended up getting 65% of the assets.

but... marriage is nothing more then a pledge of love in my eyes - one with legal benefits.

it's basicly pretty simple:

the wife and I love each other and plan to stay together... being that we both seek a specific kind of partner/spouse it is doubtfull in the extreme we would part. simply becouse we most likely could not find anyone remotly like that.

...and no my wife isn't ugly- pretty damn nice actualy - though i'm probably hte ugliest mofo on the field.

Yes, marriages are a joke in general. people get married and divorced over nothing. relationships are becomming more and more like corporate partners where if there is no actual advantage over time you break it of instead of biting through and getting your act TOGETHER together.

As long as your kids grow up with two loving parents, it doesn't really matter if you're married or not.
