are some people more susceptible to hallucinations than others?
as you may or may not know, i am a benadryl junkie. i call the act of taking it "getting dryled".
reading through trip reports throughout the internet it seems that 95% of trip reports about taking benadryl have reported the experience as "dreaming while awake."
i have done dph more times than i can count and have many friends that have tried it. NO ONE i know has EVER had a "dreamlike" experience, including me, while under the influence of dyphenhydramine.
so wtf?
why do 95% of trip reports describe it as "dreaming while awake" while 0% of people i know have had anything even close to this experience? (20-30 people)
i know it could be a coincidence, but it seems weird to me.
i am actually considering that the air in north florida must have something weird in it which causes this. it makes no since. either their is a lot of bullshit trip reports or their is a conspiracy... maybe..
but seriously, wtf?

something in the air? No dude it's the water you're gulping down with the pills, how else could the water make a strange rainbow effect from my sprinklers? The government is putting all sorts of wierd chemicals in our water supply, it's wack.

Re: are some people more susceptible to hallucinations than others?
More likely, people outside of your circle are more likely to use different terminology to describe different subjective effects. Most people I've read reports by had a small amount of drug experience, and this could also factor in.
Personally mescaline feels much more like "dreaming while awake" than diphenhydramine. I personally found it to produce a more sleepy version of being awake for several days on amphetamines or even just due to insomnia. The paranoia, the nature of the hallucinations, and the headspace feels that way, my reactions are totally different because I was sedated as hell. Why the fuck you'd want to take that shit more than once or twice is beyond me. It's pretty much how I felt throughout high school, but instead of becoming aggressive and alert, I feel helpless, retarded, and schizophrenic with an extra dose of "the world's ending? the satellites are in my head!" thrown in.
Plus I felt like shit the week after...

Re: are some people more susceptible to hallucinations than others?
To be honest, I had a dreamlike experience while I took way too much benadryl. I was watching a movie with my gf. Right after clicking play and seeing that little animation that some DVDs have when you click "Watch Movie" I blacked out and talked to myself, thinking my gf was talking to me. Meanwhile my gf was sitting there tripping balls on me talking like a schizo. Then I got so tired that I decided that I'd try to make a cup of coffee for her and myself and have some toast. I ended up pouring hot water into two mugs, each until about half-way, and being confused as hell as to why coffee wasn't forming in the mugs. The "buttered toast" was really just a piece of bread so stale that it was hard and crunchy. I woke up the next morning confused as hell as to why I found stuff in the kitchen that looked like a schizo tried to cook.
...it kinda reminds me of the discontinuous, delirious aspect to my dreams.

this is what happens to me too. i dont think of that as a dreamlike experience, rather extreme confusion. the only hallucinations ive ever seen on it are as follows:
my cat looked like his fur was "popping" kind of like popcorn
i thought i saw ticks crawling on my guitar and bugs on my floor
"fog"
bubbles all over my ipod
also, while i was playing my guitar, every few minuets i would zone out and start trying to pull the dot inlays out of my guitar because i thought they were nails. i had my headphones plugged into the amp, and so when i stopped playing my guitar to pull out the nails, i would eventually feel like i was listening to my mp3 player and the song stopped. so i would look for my ipod and try to play music. i didnt under stand why it wasnt working. eventually i realized that the headphones werent plugged in and that they were plugged into my amp. then i would start playing again and the cycle repeats its self. the next morning i woke up w/ no pants on.
i also went to the kitchen for a drink. i already had a mountain dew out but the carbonation made it impossible to drink because of the way it felt. i went to my kitchen, got a cup, opened the microwave and thought that i had been warming something up and since nothing was in their i thought i forgot to put it in their. i closed the microwave and started it. i did that at least 3 times. then i got a spoon and put it in my cup and walked back to my room. i set the spoon on the couch, lifted my cup up and realized i had forgotten to get a drink. i tried to drink from the glass anyway. the next morning my mountain dew was in my bathroom.
later i tried to smoke a pen and once i tried to listen to my ipod and tried to plug my head phones into my ear but it hurt and so i tried the other ear, it hurt to. i was pissed cause i couldnt figure out why it wasnt working. i eventually said fuck it and went to sleep.

...at least you had enough sense to say "fuck it" and go to sleep. I just eventually sobered up.

you take benadryl to get high??? That's fucking stupid. Let me guess, your 13 and can't get any real drugs so you resort to taking OTC benadryl. Real smart.....

im 18 and its called drug court. like probation, but lots more drug tests. i never would have tried benadryl if i hadnt gotten put in drug court.
i will be out dec. 16, and i will smoke a fat blunt. then i will begin my walk through the valley of the shadow of diphenhydramine. ive tried to quit already, it is NOT a pleasant experience.
the withdrawal symptoms can be compared to that of methadone, heroin, and methamphetamine.
dont think you know what i am talking about until you go through 300 benadryl in a week.
when you can fill an average grocery bag to the point of overflowing with empty 100 count bottles of benadryl, then you will know what a "real" drug is.

the first few times, it was agonizing but i think i "broke" the part of my body that makes me tired that otc drugs effect. sleeping pills dont make me tired any more either.
for a while they actually gave me insomnia.
