For me, I don't make an issue of it very often. Unless I was really, really into the girl, I get over it fast with no problems.

If it's bad, that's another story. Sometimes writing helps. Make sure you burn it later, or truecrypt it so no one else can see your emo side.

I like to delete her from every part of my life: phone, facebook/myspace/whatever, pictures, stuff they gave me, anything and everything that reminds me of her gets deleted, tossed, or put into a box. I can't stand physical reminders of people. I have a really associative memory, so seeing a shirt she gave me will make me think about her. Thus, it all goes in the box.

I drink, try to find new women, busy myself with books, maybe travel a little if I can. The last time a girl really fucked me up was terrible. I drank a ton and it didn't help much. Time and banging new women was the only thing that got me over her. I'm kind of amazed I managed perfect grades after the whole incident.

But anyway, my recipe that doesn't involve alcohol is: keep busy, don't think about her, and be patient. Time dissolves memories, replaces them with new ones, and lets you move on.
