| Better Living Through Chemistry Discussions of any and all sorts of mind-warping chemicals, pills, booze, mind machines, trippy stuff, current street prices, importing pharmaceuticals, smart drugs, nutrients, herbs, and altered states. Anyone do a bit of drug reading?
I'm just curious as to what books related to mind-altering substances the readers of this forum have on their bookshelves, fiction or non-fiction.
At the moment, I've got:
Acid Trips and Chemistry by Cam Cloud
Amazing Dope Tales by Stephen Gaskin
Cannabis Cultivator by Jeff Ditchfield
Drink: A Social History of America by Andrew Barr
Magic Mushrooms by Peter Stafford
Psychedelics by Peter Stafford
PiHKAL by Alexander and Ann Shulgin
Spliffs 3 by Tim Pilcher
The Love Drug by Richard S. Cohen
And on my wanted list are:
Animals and Psychedelics by Giorgio Samorini
LSD: My Problem Child by Albert Hofmann (R.I.P.)
TiHKAL by Alexander and Ann Shulgin
And I'm also contemplating a rather expensive purchase, "The Encyclopedia of Psychedelic Plants" by Christian Ratsch which runs for $70 to $75 new.
What about you?

Re: Anyone do a bit of drug reading?
I am waiting with bated breath for Shulgins complete Psychedelic Index, supposed to be in PIHKAL/TIHKAL format. Oh, and the Shulgin film project as well. Man, that shit's gonna change the world. I can't think of another man that has had as much of a positive impact on the world as him.

Re: Anyone do a bit of drug reading?
the Shulgin film project
I had no clue about such a project until you mentioned it. Sounds exciting!
Here's a link with a tidbit of content for the interested. (http://www.shulginthefilm.com/content.php)
And I was also unaware of any new written material coming about until you mentioned that as well. Here's a bit from the Wikipedia article concerning Mr. Shulgin and his new project:
He is currently continuing his work at home in Lafayette, California, and is writing a new comprehensive psychedelic drug index.

I remember reading an awesome book called Chocolate to Morphine or something like that when I was younger.
The Great Stoned Age is pretty good.
I don't remember any other names of books I read, sorry.

He said positive impact, dumbass.
Storming Heaven: LSD and the American Dream is a well written book I would recommend to anyone capable of reading. I'm not sure how factually correct it is but it certainly has a lot of info on the history of LSD use in America. And it's easily available on IRC.

You should try reading a fictional book WHILE on drugs.

Re: Anyone do a bit of drug reading?
try doing a little Wikipedia surfing on: dopamine, seritonan, NMDA receptor, datura's mechanisims, Salvioran, and neurotransmitters.
Scientific American Mind is a magazine which usually has 1 or 2 articles on the subject per issue.
JoePedo would be a good person to ask on this subject

Re: Anyone do a bit of drug reading?
Breaking Open the Head and 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl by Daniel Pinchbeck were two that I read and enjoyed fairly well. Not just about drugs, he talks about aliens and crop circles, 2012, Mayans, etc. etc. and how they're all connected. And then of course DMT, Iboga rituals and all that good shit.

I've read this before but don't have a copy on my shelf. Good stuff, I think I'll pick it up to read again.
