Default Success! (above and beyond)

So your boy finally did it. Since I was of legal age to work I've drifted from one mediocre job to another, always finding some assholeish way to quick/leave, preventing me from using it as a reference in my pursuit of a new job.

Well September of last year I finally landed a good job at a warehouse, worked my way up to the manager and was doing great there until my boss assulted me and then somehow slithered his way out of charges. I didn't realize he was saying negative things about me to every place I have applied since the assult in August of this year. Basically the only job I landed since then was a shitty Imos driver job where I was fired and prosecuted for possession of needles (2 years probation, 1 year of NA, 10 hours ADEP, 60 hours comm service). I have been unemployed for about 4 months now and struggling to get by day to day it has been hell. I have done some pretty low things like writing checks out of my parents checkbook, selling possessions that are important to me, among other shitty things. I have pretty much been in a downward spiral since age 17-18 heh. I didn't know what it was going to take to save me.

I have literally made a full time job out of looking for a new job. Every day starting at 11am I get on craigslist, inquire to every job I am qualified for (warehousing, hotel work, manual labor, office work, hell i've even lowered my standards to resturuant work now) to no avail. I search the newspapers, monster, workstlouis.com NOTHING.

As I always do before I went to bed last night I wrote down a bunch of numbers of potential employers from craigslist. Got up this morning called the first one on the list. A cute sounding secretary answers, informs me that I am basically perfect for this office/warehouse oriented job about half a mile from my house. I called this place at about 1 pm, she tells me they need people so badly I need to come in at 2:30 to be interviewed. I figure okay, I've been in this position before no biggie, just another interview with no success. Little did I know how great of a gift I was about to receive.

I come in and it's literally the most surreal interview I've ever had, I was on fire. Chit chatted with the secretary forever like we were the best of friends, no fakeness or awkwardness. Met the big wigs and got them to remember my name, small talked with them about sports and weather. Basically just blow everyone away, I saw a few others being interviewed and no one seemed as into them as they did me. I had the 3 people I just met telling my interviewer that I was a good/smart guy and perfect for the job.. people I had just met vouching for me. My interviewer was yet another young attractive female, we hit it off and she basically tells me the job is mine. I go in Wednesday for orientation.

Why this is so awesome- Full time with benefits. A professional environment so I get to dress nicely (ties, tucked in shirts etc), room for advancement, no experience necessary and here's the big one $40,000 A YEAR!! jesus fucking christ I did the math post-taxes that is about 800 a week. As a warehouse manager I made about $350 a week. A job with cool people I don't feel awkward around (rare as fuck) and a laidback job that isn't bullshit busy work. A job that actually matters.

You have no idea how exciting this is, no more dead end jobs delivering pizzas or checking out customers at walmart, I have finally obtained not a job but a CAREER. First things first getting rims thrown on my truck as well as some nice ass Polk speakers and some nice tint.

Sorry if you all don't care but I don't post too often around here anymore and I am hopefully no longer a deadbeat, I hopefully am getting my act together and turning myself around. Wish me luck wednesday my peeps.

TL/DR- Basically I am piece of shit and am in a serious downward spiral with no way out. Applied for a job just as I do everyday since I'm unemployed for 4+ months. Got called in, had the best interview in the history of interviews got the job and now will be earning $40K a year as a 20 year old inexperienced piece of shit.

This.

And congratulations man. Always nice to hear of someone pulling themselves outta the shitter and getting somewhere above and beyond sub-poverty level jobs. Bummer to hear about your needle charges though.

Curiosity compels me to ask of your age and whether or not you're college educated?

I turned 20 on the 18th. Right out of highschool I went into community college, attended 4 classes, dropped all of them but one and got an A in it. Second semester took 2 classes and passed one. So I've got two credits under my belt and I haven't been back in a few semesters. I plan on taking at least 2-3 classes again this upcoming spring, I have too much on plate to enroll this winter. 40 hour work weeks, 60 hours of community service to complete, a minimal social life to upkeep etc..

and thank ya meta. (to be fair though it is kind of a motivational post, since i was 13 years old i was convinced i would never be able to do anything other than shitty day to day jobs that are in the end dead ends. i had accepted at a young age that my glass ceiling was low and that was just the way it was)

yeah man college is just not my thing. in highschool i think i accumulated a 2.8 or so overall. there would be semesters where i got 1. somethings and my parents would bitch about potential and all that good shit so just to prove them wrong i would get a 3.9 or 4.0 that semester. i've always understood how to get by in the education system with minimal effort and what hoops to jump through to get high grades and all that good shit. it's just so boring that i can't force myself to do it now that it isn't mandatory.

first semester of college, there are 15 minute breaks between classes where i went. well i would go to my first class, sit in my truck for 15 minutes, go 2nd, sit in truck, 3rd, sit in truck the 4th and go home. second week of school i repeated this process only while sitting in my truck between 3rd and 4th i decided to leave and go home. never went back to 4th.

a few days later between 2nd and 3rd decide to go home, never went back to 3rd. and i think you can see where this is going up until i was only going to my first class but excelling in it.

edit- metas a decent guy/moderator everyone has their moments, especially when you are in the limelight all the time you are bound to have your moments of not so popularity. oldheads/moderators are like celebrities in the world of bltc.

Yeah I get what you're saying about education. I was quite the fuck-up in school myself and have little to no college prospects, mostly just an amazing ability to bullshit and sound smarter than I actually am. Combine that with knowing a few good people at some of the area's better employers, and you've got me having little trouble living above the poverty level. Not at $40k per year, though, more like $32k for the time being.

Oh and the Meta thing was a joke. We've never had cross words. :D

Congratulations...right now I'm looking at doing the whole college thing only to find that at the end I've got 40,000 dollars of debt and no job prospects.

Ya'll are just a bit older than me and I cannot imagine making 32 or 40 thousand dollars a year. that sounds like so much to me.

I would watch the conspicuous consumption though, from abroad it looks like our country's economy is really tanking.

It's all about taking it in stride. I grew up in an especially poor family so anything more than poverty level is an insane fucking amount of wealth to me.

The important thing is to not let any little step forward go to your head, because when you least expect it the carpet will surely be pulled out from under your feet.

Look for some small time investments maybe... to make your money do a bit more.

I mean obviously you will have to wait until things pick up a bit first and do a bit of research but it might be worth looking into.

Just an idea.

We make over 100k yr. and the more you make the more you spend...Money only goes so far. I was almost more happy as a broke free livin college student. Life is so damn busy and serious now. It is a good thing we still can both enjoy marijuana in the evenings. :D

This kind of thread is the reason I even come back to browse bltc. Congrats 556 on your effort to better your life, even though you may have some setbacks (probation etc). Yeah 40k sounds like tons of cash when your used to throwing it around $500 at a time, but it goes faster than you think. I love to see when bltc'ers move up in life, and defy the stereotype. Best of luck 556.
